Last week we saw more of the flupocalypse, but fortunately for some no one died and turned into a walker and then ate half the survivors. Within the prison we saw Herschel continue to put himself at risk to treat the sick while the wait for the precious medicines continues. But last week's episode wasn't about the drama within the prison. It was about what happened outside of it.
First and foremost we got a look at the Badass Emergency Medicine Recovery Team and their progress getting back to the prison after they got sidetracked by a horde of zombies the size of a Juggalo gathering. It's obvious that Tyrese is dealing with some demons. But in a stroke of good fortune for everyone those demons tend to manifest themselves as periodic bouts of walker skull crushing fury. He seems on the verge of deciding he doesn't want to live anymore and the looming question is whether or not Tyrese decides to "go walker" at the cost of someone else's life.
Another badass Emergency Medicine Recovery Team member is also dealing with some demons. We learned more about Bob's struggles with alcoholism last week. It seems that Daryl is largely sympathetic to his plight, but can't abide any behavior that's gonna put others at risk. Will Bob be able to keep his boozing in control (we did almost see him get torn apart by walkers to save a bottle of hooch) or if he becomes a liability to the group. If that happens, look for Daryl to put an arrow in his skull faster than you can say "Jaegermeister."
The OTHER outside the prison drama came from Rick and Carol out on a scavenging run. Since the status of the Badass Emergency Medicine recovery Team is in limbo, Rick and Carol went on a short-range run to try to find some supplies. While out scavenging they talked about Carol's murdering two sick people and also ran into some potential new survivors.
Now, I don't think anyone was surprised when the gimpy-legged chick and the spazzy blond dude didn't survive past the end of the episode. It was a well-placed reminder that the survivors in the prison are, in some way, a special breed. Not everyone can make out on their own and we were reminded of that just moments before RICK LEFT CAROL'S ASS BEHIND!
Yeah, that was pretty awesome. I'm sure I'm not the only one getting a little tired of Carol's Jaime Lee Curtis-meets-Sarah Connor attitude lately and, after her being so bold about committing murder, I was wondering what Rick was gonna do. Rick has been struggling with the yoke of leadership lately and it seemed as though he was just gonna ignore the problem. NOPE. He locked her out of the car, gave her the bad news and set her up with the gimpy girl's car and supplies before heading back to the prison.
This week it's gonna be crazy to see how Rick explains to everyone what happened and why. Those two creepy little girls might go apeshit but I think everyone is too preoccupied with the flupocalypse to question Rick's judgment much. I mean, if you're one of the sick ones are you gonna be upset the woman who thought it was OK to murder you is suddenly gone?
I can't wait to see what happens when Daryl gets back though. He likely won't just look the other way, or will he? He sided with Rick against his own brother so maybe he'll understand Or maybe he'll think "I let this guy get rid of my brother and now I have to be cool with him abandoning my side piece? Nuh-uh."
