"True Detective" season 1 episode 2 "Seeing Things" airs on Sunday at 9 p.m. on HBO. If you can't watch the latest episode of HBO's newest drama on television, you can watch the show online on HBO Go.
The first episode of "True Detective" premiered last Sunday night with 2.3 million viewers watching. The number was impressive considering it was up against the 2014 Golden Globe Awards show on NBC but HBO did a good job of promoting its newest show on their network. Some people believed that the first episode was slow and plodding but with the way the story was told in the episode, the first episode needed to explain the backstory of the characters and where everything stands as of now.
In last week's episode, entitled "The Long Bright Dark," we meet Detectives Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson) and Rustin Cohle (Matthew McConaughey). Part of the CID team of the Louisiana State Police, they are called to the scene of the murder of a prostitute. Around the murder scene was odd iconography that Hart seemed unsure about and which Cohle took to immediately. The murder took place in 1995 and while a lot of the story takes place at that time, the basis of the bigger story is seventeen years later when they are asked questions about the investigation. Cohle and Hart have not spoken in ten years after a falling out.
As the episode proceeds, we see Hart as the by the book detective who has a family and is a good southern Christian man. Cohle, however, is a loner who has had a failed marriage and is still mourning over the death of his daughter before his divorce. The way Chole also thinks is very different from his partner Hart. "In philosophical terms, I'm what's called a pessimist," Cohle tells Hart. While the interpersonal relationship between the two is on display, the investigation into the murder goes on as Cohle and Hart believe that the first murder may be linked to a missing girl from a past investigation named Marie Fontenot.
This week's "True Detective season 1 episode 2, "Seeing Things", the pressure is on for the two detectives in their murder investigation. Here is a quick preview of the episode courtesy of Spoiler TV.
Under pressure to land a suspect in the Lange murder, Quesada warns Hart and Cohle that they might be replaced by three detectives from a new task force. The pair lobbies for extra time to follow up on a lead that takes them from a rural cathouse to an incinerated church. With his marriage to Maggie already strained by work, Hart finds respite away from home..
