There have been plenty of rumors about the upcoming Christmas Special of the UK hit show "Downton Abbey," especially about protagonist Matthew Crawley's potential departure. While most plot details aren't confirmed in the slightest, we do know a bit about whats going to happen on tonight's Christmas Special of "Downton Abbey."

According to, the group staying at the Downton estate, including Robert, Cora, and the rest of the children, will visit Rose (who we met in the season 3 finale of "Downton Abbey") at Duneagle Castle. Contrary to previous Christmas Specials of "Downton Abbey," the episode won't take place around the holidays, but rather at the end of summer. The family has gone through a lot this season, between Sir Anthony leaving Edith at the alter and the youngest daughter, Sybil, dying during childbirth, a trip away from the estate might be good for the family. But, according to, not everything will go as smoothly as anticipated. "You should expect some emotional moments and even some tears before the episode is done, though that is all we are at liberty to say here."

Back at the estate, the staff will be preparing for a festival, but will be driving Mr. Carson crazy. In addition, Mrs. Patmore might find a new love interest as well, and we'll be meeting a new staff member as well.
