The Surface Pro release date remains a mystery despite promises from Microsoft that the powerful tablet would launch in early 2013. Now we're hearing the latest rumors peg the Surface Pro release date for January 29? Read on for more info, specs and features.

The latest Microsoft Surface Pro release date rumors come from Softpedia, which claims a "source close to the Redmond campus" revealed exactly when the tablet will hit stores and ship pre-orders.

CNET also reported the latest Surface Pro update news, but referred to it as an interesting "rumor" and nothing more.

Upon its release date, the Surface Pro will start at $899 for 64GB model and run up to $999 for the 128GB version. The Surface Pro runs on Windows 8 Pro and is intended to compete with the MacBook Air and similar lightweight laptops.

The Surface pro sports an Intel Ivy Bridge processor, a 16:9 ClearType display screen, and a resolution of 1,920x1,080 pixels. It also features a Mini DisplayPort capable of increasing the resulotion up to 2,560x1,440.

Softpedia also reveals that the Surface Pro won't come with Microsoft's special Touch Cover. The tablet protector/keyboard will sell separated for $119. However, the Surface Pro release date will bring one bonus with it: a free Surface pen stylus that uses Palm Block technology.
