Star Wars: Battlefront 3 release date news has been hard to come by lately, mainly because the game is still in heavy development. EA's games label exec Patrick Soderlund talked to Polygon about the progress of the game and attributed the lengthy dev process to the company's desire to use their Star Wars license to turn out a game on par with the Arkham series.
"The most important thing for me is that we take the Star Wars license and come up with games where peoples' jaws drop," he said. "We need to do with this what [Batman: Arkham Asylum] did for the Batman license."
DICE, the EA wing responsible for gorgeous FPS Battlefield, is heading up development of the game. And, according to Soderlund, the team is exhausting every resource they acquired from Lucas Arts to find the best bits of data to include on the Star Wars: Battlefront 3 release date. This includes using the vehicles seen in the E3 teaser trailer featured below and making sure the game is done correctly rather than quickly.
"It's going to take awhile. We just announced the license and showed a sneak peek of Hoth. The speeder and the AT-AT will be in [the game] for sure. We didn't toss anything out," he said. "We're looking at the old games. We have access to everything that was done during the LucasArts era. But we do want to take our own stance."
It's worth noting that the Star Wars: Battlefront 3 release date will feature a game that won't be called Star Wars: Battlefront 3 but shortened to the simpler "Battlefront." Still, in the hearts and minds of many fans the DICE-led reboot will always be Star Wars: Battlefront 3. The big question now is when will the Star Wars: Battlefront 3 release date be upon us? On a recent investors call at EA headquarters EA Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen said the game "will most likely come out around the same time the Star Wars movies start to come out, probably in the summer of '15."
