Sonic the Hedgehog Wii U, 3DS, 360, PS3, and Sonic next-gen is on his way this November. We can't prove it yet, but that's the rumor going around now, and it's a reliable one. Add it to the list of things you can expect at E3: the announcement of a new Sonic game for all current and next gen systems, including (perhaps especially) Wii U.
The untitled Sonic Game 2013 was first revealed this week and was announced by a fellow named Westos on the Segabits forum. Wintos apparently has a reputation; he has leaked every Sonic game in the last several years (since Sonic Unleashed) months before it was announced, and has always been right. It's hard to argue with success when you're a leaker, and now Wintos has leaks. According to Wintos:
This past weekend I was able to watch a couple of demonstrations on Sonic Team's upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog game, currently titled Sonic Excursion. In all they had two levels to show off which all four of the playable characters the story will focus on were able to play through, but do not worry as they all play similarly to Sonic with minor differences, probably to keep up the pacing of the game as that's been an issue with multiple characters in the past. [...] After this demonstration was complete, we watched a powerpoint presentation with screenshots from the game. We were told how the story would focus on Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, and Dr. Eggman.
So what will the Sonic game 2013 be like? Apparently, all seven versions will be the same, except the PC, PS4, and XI [Xbox Infinite] versions will have higher resolutions and the 3DS version will be made by a different team. Do not worry, it is not going to be Dimps. Sega has ended their relationship with them.
If the leak is true, and it's so specific that I'd be quite surprised if it is not, we should see the first signs of Sonic the Hedgehog sooner rather than later, most likely at E3. It is, after all, the best time to announce a game.
It's almost more interesting to consider that other tidbit: that the new Xbox will be called, not the 720 or the Next or any of the other rumored names, but the Xbox Infinite. Seems a little odd right after Bioshock Infinite, and I'd be skeptical of that name anyway. Microsoft may not even have settled on one just yet.
What do you think? Is a new Sonic game likely in 2013? And do you still care?
