After 36 times in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Snoopy has been booted out of the much-loved event, disappointing Peanuts fans everywhere.

The white dog with floppy ears has appeared in the parade for decades, including favorites like Flying Ace Snoopy, Millennium Snoopy, Skating Snoopy, Astronaut Snoopy, and Aviator Snoopy. But this year Peanuts will have a float instead.

Each year, Macy's has to assess which characters are most popular with children under 12. So the inflatable characters vary year to year with growing and waning tastes. Newer additions like Kung Fu Panda, a sock monkey named Julius, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid have knocked out some iconic balloons. But, don't worry, Mickey Mouse and Kermit the Frog are scheduled to float down the streets of Manhattan - that is as long as they don't protest the Snoopy snub.

Since 1924, Macy's has included countless cartoon characters in the three-hour event. Felix the Cat and Superman were two of the earliest introductions in 1927 and 1939. Over the years Popeye, Kermit the Frog and Bugs Bunny made waves. And most recently, Dora the Explorer (2005), Horton the Elephant (2008) and Hello Kitty (2012) made appearances.

Do you think they should have kept Snoopy? We do!
