Pokémon X & Y news - big news - is coming this Saturday after several weeks of silence. The Pokémon Company has been focused on the release of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity and the Pikachu 3DS XL to the exclusion of all else. But the game is out now, the reviews are in, and the world moves on. Plus, the newest Pokémon movie hit DVD this week.

Pokémon X & Y news will be revealed on Saturday, according to the official Pokémon Twitter, which claims that this is going to be a big one.

What will the Pokémon X & Y news be? All the news lately has taken the form of rumors - and there have been a lot - not a single one of which has proven correct, especially not the leak of 99 new Pokémon. Here's what we actually know:

Here are the biggest things we don't know:

  • What region the game will be in
  • How the gameplay will be different
  • How many new Pokémon there will be
  • Whether old Pokémon will be in the region or not
  • What type Sylveon is

Chances are, the new Pokémon X and Y news will address one or more of those questions. Our bet: we'll learn what region it is (and it will probably be based on Europe), and the number of new Pokémon (because those are easy giveaways, and because there are no other major Pokémon game releases until Pokémon X and Y).

But the biggest Pokémon X & Y news they'll announce is a little different. This is totally a rumor, but it's a great and a very plausible one. The Pokémon Company will announce a new type. The first since Generation II. Sylveon will be a part of it.

Why will a new type be part of the Pokémon X & Y news? It's the only thing that makes sense. Notice that on the following chart, each type is opposite the Eeveelution it is weak against. Sylveon is opposite Jolteon, which means that - if the pattern holds - Sylveon is either a Ground type (which is extremely unlikely, considering its appearance), or a Flying or Water type, or a new type. Vaporeon is already a Water type, obviously. And Sylveon could be a Flying type - that's possibility number two. But out of 649 Pokémon, there is only one pure Flying type - Tornadus, a legendary who lives in the clouds. Nor has any Eevee ever had a dual-type evolution - and Normal / Flying would be pretty disappointing.

So the Pokémon X & Y news could very well include a new type. What it would be called is anyone's guess - I lean toward "Fairy" type, since Sylveon looks like a Fairy, and its name - in all languages - derives from a name for fairies. This type would be weak against Electricity and probably Steel (cold iron) and strong against maybe Normal and Dark. Now I'm just getting into wild speculation. But you heard it here first (or, you know, elsewhere). We'll find out on Saturday.

There's some non-Pokémon X and Y news as well: the newest Pokémon movie is out on DVD in North America. It's called "Pokémon the Movie: Kyurem vs. The Sword of Justice." It stars Ash and Keldeo, along with the other "Three Musketeers" inspired Swords of Justice, against Kyurem. I suspect they'll win.

We'll be back on Saturday to report the actual Pokémon X & Y news. But seriously, Fairy type. Fingers crossed.
