The "Orange is the New Black" season 2 Netflix premiere is expected to hit the streaming service around springtime of this year. It's likely showrunners will announce the official premiere date soon, seeing as the cast recently filmed the second season finale in New York City. As production wraps up, the "OITNB" women also shared insight on their onscreen characters during a photo shoot on the Queens, New York set.

The "Orange is the New Black" Elle spread this month features the Litchfield ladies in a glamorous new light. The photo shoot includes "OITNB" actresses Samira Wiley (Poussey), Kate Mulgrew (Red), Dascha Polanco (Dayanara), Yael Stone (Lorna Morello), Taylor Schilling (Piper), Natasha Lyonne (Nicky), Danielle Brooks (Taystee), Laverne Cox (Sophia), Uzo Aduba (Crazy Eyes), Taryn Manning (Pennsatucky) and Laura Prepon (Alex). You can see the glitzy shoot in full here.

"These are not mass murderers. These are women who tripped-some just slipped on a banana peel," Mulgrew says. As the Netflix prison series moves forward, fans will learn more on the back stories of each inmate. The humanizing depiction of a diverse range of characters is expected to continue to deliver a keyhole into the impact prison life has on women. "That is the struggle real people have," Brooks says. "They want to get out but don't know how to maneuver in the real world anymore."

"Orange is the New Black" costume designer Jenn Rogien revealed to PopStyle that season 2 will definitely exhibit more character flashbacks, and more glam.

"They do still wear orange and khaki quite a bit, but there are some pretty amazing flashbacks that I'm really excited about. We travel into different time periods to see the characters' backstories."

"Orange is the New Black" offers such a frank account of prison life for women due largely to show consultant and real life inspiration Piper Kerman. Kerman is represented by Schilling's Piper Chapman in the Netflix series. It was Kerman herself who unveiled the production details on Monday, posting a photo on Twitter of herself with actress Adrienne Moore (Black Cindy) while shooting the season 2 finale. Actresses Jessica Pimentel, Selenis Levya and Wiley also took to social media just this week to showcase their return to the NYC set after the holidays. Looks like the cast is gearing up to finish shooting any day now.
