While the Nintendo Switch’s big selling point is the system’s portability, some may be surprised to find it lacking some of Nintendo’s more popular features from the 3DS.

As confirmed by VentureBeat, the Nintendo Switch will not have StreetPass or Miiverse applications. No Streetpass functionality is especially surprising, seeing as how the Switch is made to be taken outside and played with others. According to David Young, Nintendo of America’s assistant manager of public relations, the reason for the StreetPass exclusion was to, oddly enough, emphasise that the Switch is a home console.

As for Miiverse, the social media platform for Wii U and 3DS seems like it will be abandoned. Nintendo mentioned screenshots (and video, in the future) can be shared on social media, but didn’t specify which platforms. The company did mention that the platforms already exist, so simply expect to be able to easily upload to Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and the like.
