With the latest Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition patch now winding its way through the PSN content approval process, 4J Studios is finally returning its attention to development of Minecraft Xbox 360 Update 14 -- and the team is offering new hints of what to expect from the game's next major patch.
After abandoning work on Minecraft Xbox 360 Update 14 late last year, to finalize the release version of Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition and a trio of post-launch stability patches, 4J Studios has confirmed that they are once again hard at work on the next round of content for Minecraft Xbox 360. The news is likely to be music to the ears of those who find Minecraft Xbox 360 getting a bit stale, after months of stagnation that saw little in the way of new content other than a free Halloween update and the debut of the Minecraft Xbox 360 Avengers Skin Pack. Even better, we finally have some idea of what 4J Studios plans to include in the upcoming patch, courtesy of the official 4J Studios Twitter account.
The latest update for Minecraft Xbox 360 will apparently be based largely on Minecraft 1.3.1 -- an update which focused far more on the backend of Minecraft than any major content additions -- but 4J Studios says a few features from other Minecraft patches will also be included in Minecraft Xbox 360 Update 14 as well.
So, what exactly does that mean for the next Minecraft Xbox 360 patch?
For those who may not be aware, Minecraft 1.3.1 saw Mojang introduce a number of welcome changes to their hit sandbox game, including the randomly-generated Desert Temple and Jungle Temple structures, along with villager trading, and the Emerald Ore use to make most of the game's best equipment. Minecraft 1.3 also introduced the Large Biome world type, and altered mountainous sub-biomes to make their rock formations taller. (Click here for the complete Minecraft 1.3.1 change log)
Obviously, it's a bit more difficult to pin down what might/might not be included from other versions of Minecraft, though 4J Studios is usually pretty communicative with those who keep tabs on the studio's various social media accounts. In fact, we'd be a bit shocked if we didn't start seeing new Minecraft Xbox 360 Update 14 teasers start appearing on the 4J Studios account by the end of the month.
Personally, I'm hoping to see 4J Studios get around to adding some of the new biomes that were introduced in Minecraft 1.7 and/or the horses and mules from the Minecraft 1.6 update. I'd also settle for Minecraft 1.5's updated Redstone mechanics, or the new lighting engine that was also included in Minecraft's Redstone Update.
