I guess perhaps it's just a sign of the times, but to me there is something a bit odd about journalists becoming prostitutes--even if it is just for an acting role. I didn't realize it till today, but apparently Meredith Veiera, long time co-host of NBC's "Today Show", along with Matt Lauer from 2006-2011, actually has a background in acting for a major daytime television soap opera, "General Hospital".
Though the American journalist is best known for her numerous roles in the media such as "Today Show" and "The View" cohost, as well as moderator of the popular game "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire,"
So what's all this about prostitution then? It seems the Broadcast media mogul is planning to return to "General Hospital" as a guest star in her previous role of Bree Flanders. Bree is the Madame of a ritzy call-girl service in the New York state-set soap opera "General Hospital"
Meredith Vieira is set to make her comeback appearance on Friday, but this time around, her role is a little less racy. After all, it's been 10 years since she was last seen on the long-time running soap opera.
Bree Flanders, however, will be having a change of heart--and job. She is set to re-launch as Senior VP of Marketing at CoeCoe Cosmetics.
It seems the show as a whole is looking for a throwback to the good old days, as General Hospital is also bringing back other former stars such as Lynn Herring and Lucy Coe.
So what is the reason for bringing Vieira back to the General Hospital?
Apparently, it's a matter of need in the story line. According to Vieira,
"Sabrina and Felix are desperately trying to get a meeting with Lucy but first they have to go through me,"
"But, really, not much has changed for Bree. Prostitution. Makeup. Hey, it's all sales."
Some might say that this statement could be modified to fit Vieira as well. Journalism, acting, what's the difference? It's all sales too...
But hey we love it! And personallym I think it's pretty cool to see all facets of the media front-woman's personality and interests. Makes her a little more like the rest of us, I think.
So, in case you are wondering why Bree Flanders out of the sex business, Vieira had this to say:
"Bree probably saw the writing on the wall. She's getting older. Or maybe the law was on her ass. Heidi Fleiss wound up doing a reality show, didn't she? Everyone deserves a second chance."
That statement right there tells me why it is Vieira has been so popular through the years. With a sense of humor like that, she just can't lose.
Vieira's is scheduled to appear on "General Hospital", Friday, December 14, and when that time comes, we'll be posting the video clip for anyone who missed it.
Meredith Vieira and Matt Lauer Heckled by Olympics Tweeters for Berners-Lee Blunder
During NBC's Olympics opening ceremony coverage, Meredith Vieira voiced words that are likely to haunt her for years to come, bringing on a barrage of heckling tweets within the online community.
Just moments after the coverage began, Vieira sheepishly admitted that "if you don't know who Berners-Lee is, don't worry...neither do we".
Sir Tim Berners-Lee is the founding father of the World Wide Web and was a star in the Olympics opening ceremony which celebrated the impact of his work on the world.
Whether it was an attempt at humor or an honest admission, Vieira's lacking knowledge led to a mass influx of heckling commentary from Tweeters around the globe.
"My God, Sir Tim Berners-Lee is actually IN the opening ceremonies and they disrespected him like that? I'm a little aghast!", tweets one horrified viewer.
"Meredith Viera & Matt Lauer admitting they have no idea who is Tim Berners-Lee is the defining point of their sad, unimaginative commentary," tweets another.
Still others chose to express their shock in a more humorous tone:
@jimmiebjr "Dear Britain. Thanks for those Opening Ceremonies. As a token of our appreciation, please keep Matt Lauer and Meredith Viera."
This branding omission has left some viewers pining for the familiar voice of reason who was visibly lacking from NBC's opening ceremony live coverage: recently ousted Morning Show co-host Anne Curry.
"Pretty sure @AnnCurry knows who Tim Berners-Lee is" tweets Reuter's columnist Anthony De Rosa
"Like everyone else - except Lauer and Veira!" Replies @TheSpicyItalian
"Would have loved to see @anncurry call Matt a "ignorant moron" on national tv for not knowing TBL. Seriously", chimes in another.
And the jeers just keep coming....
