Executive vice president of business operations for NBA team Los Angeles Lakers, Jeanie Buss is engaged to longtime boyfriend and former Lakers coach Phil Jackson.

Buss and Jackson have been dating for 12 long years and Jackson decided to give marriage another shot when he proposed to his 57-year-old girlfriend over the Christmas holidays in 2012.

Buss revealed the news on her Twitter page. She posted a picture of a beautiful ring adorning her hand with the caption: "Twitter family -- Phil finally gave me that ring I wanted ! :-)."

Buss told ESPN LA that she was "beyond happy" and "really didn't want it to be news, but I knew people who followed me on Twitter cared about it and I've been wearing the ring since Christmas, so I figured I should let people know."

She also revealed that the date for the wedding is not yet set.

The couple has had their share of ups and downs in their personal and professional relationship, but they have overcome all obstacles and have decided to make their relationship official. In Buss' 2011 book, "Laker Girl", Jackson wrote in the foreword how their relationship began on a flight back to Los Angeles from Vancouver.

"As the first-class passengers were called, I asked if she was going to board the plane, but she said she flew coach, explaining that flying first class wasn't necessary and that the Lakers didn't need the added expense. Let's just say that was the beginning of something special," he wrote.

Earlier this year, Jackson was the top candidate of regaining his post as head coach of the Lakers. But Mike D'Antoni was picked as Mike Brown's replacement at the last minute. Brown was fired as the coach of the team just five games into the season.

Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets are considering Jackson to fill the empty spot of head coach for the team, marking his return to NBA.
