It's far from official, but a new report from a prominent Taiwanese tech blog is painting a rather believable picture of the iPad 5 release date timeline while Apple fans across the globe continue to await confirmation that the company is even working on a follow-up to the fourth-generation iPad introduced last November.
More than six months after Apple's fourth-generation iPad debuted alongside the iPad mini, last November, new reports suggest the iPad 5 release date could be coming this fall, with production on Apple's next flagship tablet set to begin later this summer. According to unidentified Digitimes sources, Apple suppliers will begin production of the iPad 5 sometime during late July or early August, and the company is apparently eyeing September for the fifth-generation iPad's launch.
It's not the first time that iPad 5 release date rumors have pointed to a September launch for Apple's next 10-inch tablet, though previous iPad 5 release date speculation certainly hasn't been quite as specific as Digitimes' most recent sources. The unidentified source inside of Apple's supply chain says executives back in Cupertino are hoping to ship roughly 5 million units when the iPad 5 release date arrives later this year. The push may even see the oft-rumored Retina iPad mini pushed back to November so as not to harm sales of the fifth-generation iPad.
Late last month, unidentified sources claimed that a trio of Japanese electronics manufacturers would begin production of new display panels for the iPhone 5S this July, with factory output scheduled to hit its peak alongside the iPhone 5S release date sometime this September. For a brief period, it also looked as if photos of the next iPad's display assembly might have leaked prior to the official iPad 5 release date announcement, but additional investigation by a French tech blog later revealed that the "leaked" photographs were really just images of an iPad mini digitizer.
