Late last week Apple seeded iOS beta 6.1.1 to developers, and then aweek later, unexpectedly released iOS 6.1.1 for iPhone 4S alone. It seems the update was released on such short notice due to some serious bugs in iOS 6.1 which caused problems for 3G cellular connectivity while eating away battery life, Though users across devices have complained of problems with battery life, the fix ironically was only made available for iPhone 4S.
Meanwhil,e those of us who have only just gotten accustomed to the fact an iOS 6 jailbreak was actually available and running on our iOS 6 devices, worried that this update could begin patching to the one-week old evasi0n jailbreak released last Monday, February 4th.
Thankfully, Apple did not patch the untethered iOS 6 jailbreak in 6.1.1 as reported by planetbeing, moments after the 6.1.1 release:
Apple released 6.1.1 for the 4S only today. The JB still works fine. We will release an updated evasi0n that recognizes it as supported.

In additio,n the evad3rs dev team, creators of the iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5 and other non-jailbroken devices, got right to work creating an update to evasi0n--update 1.3 to support iOS 6.1.1 for iPhone 4S users. According to our friends at iDownloadBlog, the jailbreak is fully functioning and they have provided some nice instructions for how to do the jailbreak.
As a word of caution however, keep this one thing in mind: the iOS 6.1.1 update will most likely update iPhone 4S' baseband as well. Therefore, a baseband unlock like UltraSn0w would certainly be lost. If this is the case for your iPhone 4S, it's advised that you not update to 6.1.1
For the rest of you though, here is a simple video explaining how to jailbreak iOS 6.1.1
How To Jailbreak iOS 6.1.1
Step 1: Update your iPhone 4S to iOS 6.1.1 using iTunes. Please avoid using OTA updates. You can download iOS 6.1.1 from our downloads page. Download evasi0n 1.3 from ourdownloads page and run it. Connect your iPhone 4S to your computer, and wait until the evasi0n app detects your device, and then click Jailbreak and let it run.
Step 2: Eventually you will get to the point where evasi0n will ask you to unlock your device, and tap the Jailbreak icon on your Home screen. This icon will reside on the second page of your Home screen, unless you have a bunch of apps on the second page, in which case it will be on a later page. Tap this jailbreak icon only once, and then you will notice a black page load and then go away. This is perfectly normal, just wait and be patient.
Step 3: Evasi0n will eventually report that the jailbreak process is complete. At that point, you may click the Exit button on the evasi0n app to close the app. the rest of the process focuses solely on your iPhone. Your iPhone will reboot a couple of times, and you will notice an evasi0n logo on a large white background on your iPhone. Again, just be patient, the jailbreak is almost completed.
Step 4: Once the jailbreak is completed, (right after the second coming of the white background with the evasi0n logo, you can unlock your device. you should see the Cydialogo on the second page of your Home screen. Wait a few seconds and then tap the Cydia logo to load Cydia. The first time you load Cydia it must initialize. After that, you will be taken back to your Lock screen. Unlock your device, and open Cydia once more to begin using it.
That's it, now you have a jailbroken iOS 6.1.1 install on your iPhone 4S. Wasn't that easy?
