Late last night, Twitter was on fire as jailbreak hopefuls from around the globe sent their shouts outs and questions to the latest bright lights on the iPhone jailbreak scene. After forming their group less than a week ago, @iike_a_sir, @dwaynefortman, and @ragemasta have been hard at work producing something few jailbreakers could have expected so soon: an untethered iOS 6 jailbreak for the iPhone 5, 4S, 4 and 3GS devices. Additionally, it appears @dwaynefortman, the group's lead developer, is also working the jailbreak for iPad as well.
Amid all the love and endless questions concerning the release, the team was asked numerous times to produce a name and logo, as people are ready and willing to sign up, and yes, wear the T-shirt too.
After several hours of debate, the founder of the group, @iike_a_sir ,informed us that a name has been chosen, while also revealing an accompanying t-shirt.
So what is the name of this soon to be iconic group of iOS 6 jailbreakers?
As leadman @iike_a_sir shared with me in a conversation yesterday,
"It's been agreed --Team Dr1zzle. Not ra1n, not sn0w, just a bit of dr1zzle"
Quite a modest name for three guys who are about to release the first untethered iOS jailbreak for iPhone 5, 4S, 4, and 3GS and possibly iPad as well.
The guys are working furiously, pulling all-nighters and say soon, more photos and video will be available to back their claims. In the meantime, however, send them a shout out using the team hashtag #TeamDr1zzle. It would be a boost for them to see this trend on Twitter. Just as an aside though, refrain from asking about the release date--that is, if you can. All good things take time. Just know these guys are determined and will deliver. Rock on #TeamDr1zzle!
[UPDATE] Untethered iOS 6 Jailbreak Team Member 3 Provides Photo Proof of His Progress
The recently formed iOS 6 Untethered Jailbreak team is well on their way to making jailbreak history, as several photos of jailbroken iPhone 5s emerged over the weekend. One notable missing photo, however, was from lead hacker and the founder of the team, UK student @iike_a_sir.
Rest assured though, he's been hard at work, about an hour ago, the leader of the gang produced his photo as well:
Hello cydia on iPhone 5, it's nice to see you're finally working :) twitter.com/Iike_a_sir/sta...
- Like a Sir TM (@Iike_a_sir) October 7, 2012
Though an official date has yet to be released, based on what I've seen, I'd say the exploit may be ready before the week is out. Of course, don't hold your breath waiting--you just never know what might happen. If you missed the rest of the story leading up to this moment, check it out below along with other follow-up posts listed. In the mean time, send the guys a quick shout out using hashtag #TeamDr1zzle
Untethered iOS 6 Jailbreak for iPhone 5, 4S, 4 and 3GS Near as Hackers Unite Suggesting a Release By November [PHOTOS]
Sunday, jailbreak enthusiasts across the globe heard the words they have all been waiting for. An untethered iOS 6 jailbreak for iPhone 5, 4S, 4 and 3GS is currently in the works and may be available before the month is out.
The tip came around 4 am EST on Sunday, after many of us had been feasting our eyes on released photos of the iOS 6 jailbreak on an iPhone 5.
It had been an eventful day, as co-developers @dwaynefortman and @iike_a_sir worked steadily from different sides of the globe to bring the jailbreak to pass.
@iike_a_sir, a virtually unknown hacker from the UK, hooked up with @dwaynefortman earlier this week after the young hacker requested help from the jailbreak community in using tricks he discovered within the Redsn0w software, which he claims to hold the keys for an untethered iOS 6 jailbreak on the iPhone 5.
The two have been working from their distant locations, using Skype as a go between for sharing information.
Around 3pm EST Saturday afternoon, @dwaynefortman produced evidence that the two were actually on to something as this photo surfaced on Twitter:
Though it seemed the two had that cat in the bag, their work had not gone without notice by other iPhone 5 developers. In fact, roughly an hour after @dwaynefortman released the photo, another iOS 6 jailbreak photo emerged--this time from developer @ragemasta.
The photo came after I requested a interview concerning his progress on the jailbreak, to which he responded with this tweet:
@ragemasta then went on to tweet the same photo to @iike_a_sir and @dwaynefortman, offering what appeared to be a challenge or a truce:
@dwaynefortman " y'all need some help ?"
Moments after receiving the tweet, @dwanyefortman tweeted back with this:
@ragemasta "Welcome aboard. How did you find the exploit?I would love to take a look at your work" - Dwayne Fortman
Several hours went by with no response from @ragemasta, at which point, the newley formed iOS 6 developer team assumed this meant he was not interested in working with them. Still, @dwaynefortman remained sportsman-like posting this tweet to the fellow hacker:
- Dwayne Fortman (@dwaynefortman) October 7, 2012
Of course @dwaynefortman was not prepared to give up that easily, and for the next couple of hours, we heard nothing from him on Twitter, then suddenly, this photo emerged:
With these hackers submitting moves like expert chess players, many were beginning to wonder where @iike_sir was in the mix. This morning however, the hacker resurfaced, sharing tidbits of his own progress.
The icing on the cake of these developments, however, came early this morning as @dwaynefortman revealed the unbelievable news that jailbreakers around the world could have hardly expected:
I can't sleep until I post this -Jailbreak will support3gs, 4, 4s and iPhone 5 on 5.1.1 and above. :) night night #ZZzz
- Dwayne Fortman
To that he added the following aside:
Just to be clear, I am not using the same exploit as @iike_a_sir has found. I am however using Redsn0w as a basis. Two exploits = Greatness - Dwayne Fortman
At that point, many were wondering if the three were working together, or if this was an every-man-for-himself race to release the first untethered iOS 6 Jailbreak for iPhone 5.
As @SimHawks tweeted,
@cammywrites are all three working together on the JB or racing? Is it sad I'm finding this whole thing very exciting?
- Simon Kirtland
No bud, you are not alone in your excitement. Safe to say there are thousands sitting on the edge of their seats, waiting for the release. My favorite part of this story arrived this morning, however, as it appears that the hackers are in fact working in unison to develop a stable untethered iOS 6 jailbreak for iPhone 5, 4S, 4, and 3GS. Around 1pm EST I found @ragemasta tweeting to @dwaynefortman,
@dwaynefortman send dm when ya can - Robert Goldenstein
In addition, when asked by an anxious fan if the release would be soon--soon enough to plan an iPhone 5 purchase in November--@dwayenfortman assured him, to "go ahead and buy one" with this tweet:
@elmajarahaBuy an iPhone 5 :)
- Dwayne Fortman
Watching these guys at work, challenging one another and collaborating in a seemingly impossible mission, made me recall a famous quote of Steve Jobs where he said, in doing anything great,
"It comes down to trying to expose yourself to the best things that humans have done - and then try to bring those things in to what you're doing. Picasso had a saying: Good artists copy, Great artists steal - and we have always been shameless about stealing great ideas".
In essence, this is what these fellows have done, and now in coming together, they will steal shamelessly from one another to produce a history-making result. In their work, they are honoring the passion and genius of our dearly departed, Steve Jobs.
