Today was quite an eventful day on the jailbreak scene as we saw a number of underhanded goings on take place from paypal accounts being compromised to piracy taking down legitimate gaming sites, to the most disturbing of all: a glut of iOS 6 and 6.0.1 untethered jailbreak schemes for iPhone 5, iPhone 4S and other non jailbroken devices. We've also seen a new target taken captive--the Apple TV 3 which up to this point has seen very few shady jailbreak claims but this week one has arisen claiming a 5.1.1 jailbreak for the unjailbroken device.
For the sake of brevity, I will not go into deep details, but want to make everyone aware of the scams that have surfaced so that they do not fool readers who may not know.
In terms of the iOS 6 and 6.0.1 untethered jailbreak schemes, one of the most prevalent schemers at this point is a guy named John Colston, who has been behind a number of shady press releases and the underhanded http://unlockorjailbreak.com/ , claiming the jailbreaks people are craving but are simply written for the sake of gaining ad revenue off of heavy foot traffic to his various sites and posts.
Colston was responsible for the recent press release posted on SB wire which utilized iDigitalTimes as the endorsing party. Though I contacted the site and submitted a complaint form, I have yet to see the post removed, still it seems my reputation is not the only one which was used for nefarious purposes.
Today, Chronic Dev Team member Kevin Bradley made it his business to expose and warn an underhanded website known as www.officialseas0npass.blogspot.com, which claims a 5.1.1 Apple TV Jailbreak utilizing software created by Bradley himself to hook unsuspecting jailbreak hopefuls into "downloading" the link.
When you choose to download, what comes up is a required survey. You must choose one out of 5, which ultimately leads to a chain of rigmarole which is all too common for these spamming and scamming websites.
As I have mentioned in the past, the reason many of these iOS 6 untethered jailbreak schemes arise, as well as this most recent Apple TV 3 jailbreak scheme, is due to the amount of ad revenue which can be earned from surveys, ad views, and other factors.
It seems Bradley was quite intent on putting a stop to these false sites as he has been heavy on the path of this latest scheme as well as the http://unlockorjailbreak.com/ fiend, John Colston, mentioned in the iOS 6 and 6.0.1 untethered jailbreak scheme above.
Though sites such as these should be exposed and called what they are, unfortunately, it appears Bradley may have tread into some grey area concerning how he handled the offense.
Making claims that he would be "doxxing" the creator, brings into question the possibly of suspension from Twitter, as this kind of behavior is a violation of Twitter TOS.
All these goings on even prompted former team member Joshua Hill to comment claiming that,
"The entire world is going nuts..."
Just in closing, if you happen to run across any more of these jailbreak schemes, please feel free to email, or tweet me the details, and I will do my best to expose them. If you haven't heard of the various other schemes I've written about before, please take a look at a few of the posts attached below to get yourself up to date.

iOS 6 and 6.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 5 Scam Alert: Press Release Uses iDigitalTimes As Faulty Source--Please Beware!
iOS 6 Untethered Jailbreak scams as you know are reaching an unbelievable height of ridiculousness, but today I think I observed about the worst to date. This post will be short, but nonetheless relevant.
So along this journey towards an iOS 6 Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 5, 4S and other non-jailbroken devices, we've seen any number of fake teams and scams. However, the one scam hitting me today like a ton of bricks, is a press release found on SB Wire which claims an iOS 6 and 6.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 5/4S/4 has been released. Well many of may not be aware that these "press release" sites are often full of inaccurate information, but what has really infuriated me about this one is the fact that it cites me as its source!
The "press release" claims I have tried and verified the tool, but let me tell you folks, that's just not true! Here is a sample of what release claims:
"Finally the untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.0.1/6.1 mode for iPhone 5, iPhone 4S/4 and permanent factory unlock for all iDevices has been released by Chip Jailbreak Group and it is available for public download via the official UnlockOrJailbreak.com website.

Last week I wrote an article reveailing scams which have emerged and are causing confusion and loss of money as anxious iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPad 4 and iPad Mini Users are daily falling prey to these iOS 6 untethered jailbreak scams in thier desire for a jailbreak.
Two more have been brought to my attention and have been confirmed as false by iPhone Dev Team member @MuscleNerd.
This post will not be lengthy as my previous ones, but I wanted to quickly put something out, along with the screen shots so you can recognize the fake Absinthe/Greenpois0n look-alike sites that are emerging each day.
The first is http://greenpois0nblog.blogspot.com/ is tricky as it copies a good bit of content from the orignial absinthe website. Here is what it looks like. Stay away from it!
The second is http://redpois0n.net/
Both claim Untethered iOS 6 and 6.0.1 Jailbreak for iPhone 5, 4s, 4, 3Gs, iPad 3 & iPad 2 , however @MuscleNerd has deemed them frauds.
" JB's have never materialized overnight without it being publicized well in advance (during testing)", the veteran hacker stated.

iOS 6 And 6.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 5: New Scam Fools Jailbreakers With Convincing Absinthe Greepois0n Look Alike Site for Chronic Dev-Team But Don't Be Fooled
An iOS 6 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5... Yeah, we've been waiting a while. As a result, its no surprise that almost daily a new scam surfaces claiming the jailbreak is available, for a price or some other gimmick. Most who follow my writing know, I try to keep everyone up to date on the progress concerning an iOS 6 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, and other A5 and A6 devices. Along the way, I've let you know who isworking on one, and who is faking it. Well, I happened to notice a website the other day which, to me, was a little unnerving because of the manner which it presented itself. A manner which I suspect may be fooling a lot of people, desperate to get a much wanted iOS 6 untethered jailbreak for their iPhone 5 or other iOS 6 device.
So what is so disturbing? Well the fact that people seem to now realize just claiming an untethered jailbreak is not enough. You are going to have to look like one of the Dev-Team members if you want to pull it off. And that, unfortunately, is exactly what this latest iOS 6 untethered jailbreak fraud is doing.
These sites claim to be the homepages of well-known Chronic Development team member Pod2g and the Chronic Development greenp0sion/absinthe download page.
The sites claim to have released Absinthe v3, an iOS 6 and 6.0.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPad 4, iPad mini and other non-jailbroken devices.
Now, I'll be honest; short of the fact that I know what the iPhone Dev Team site and the greenp0son site actually look like, as well as its web address, it may be more difficult for a less familiar person to tell this is not the actual site of the Chronic Dev-Team. After all, the site has done a darn good job of copying the group's logo and look. Here is a photo just to demonstrate.
Initially, when I saw the site, I chose not to write about it, simply because I figured it wouldn't be that big of an issue. However, I have had a few readers contact me about the site in hopes that I would report it as a scam. These readers had, unfortunately, been duped by it, and even lost some money to the scam.
The sites offers no iOS 6 untethered jailbreak. If you go to the site and click on the "download link" what will happen is
1. The reader must complete a survey or offer, requiring a monetary payment.
2. Nothing happens....no iOS 6 or iOS 6.0.1 untethered jailbreak. Just nothing.
Many of you know the Chronic Dev-Team and iPhone Dev-Team do not require payment or ask users to complete surveys for access to their jailbreaks. Also, when jailbreaks are made available, they tweet about it through their official twitter hashtags. Plus, you'll find multiple websites reporting the news along with the download links readily available.
So, if you happen to run across this Absinthe v3 iOS 6 untethered jailbreak scam, don't trust it. Just another rogue site, looking to make a buck off of uninformed and eager jailbreak hopefuls.
