iOS 6, 6.1 Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 5/4S, iPad Mini and other non-jailbroken device owners, be of good cheer! The journey is nearly through!
After an emotional weekend with the release of what appeared to be the beta 5 version of iOS 6 .1, which all expected to be the golden master, @MuscleNerd was the first to let us know Apple was doing something a little different this go around.
"Wow, a new 6.1 beta 5 is out. Apple's teasing us all!" said the longtime jailbreak developer on Saturday.
About an hour later however, the tables seemed to turn as we saw the iPhone Dev Team member follow up with the following tweet.
"Looks like iOS 6.1b5 isn't a beta, it activates without developer registration and has no Release Type lockdown keys ...Despite the odd beta naming, as @winocm discovered, this is actually releasable as public 6.1 at Apple's will. Good! Home stretch..."
Of course many were confused about what this release meant and how soon they could expect an iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5/4S, iPad Mini and other non-jailbroken devices to emerge.
Though there was plenty of negative speculation going. Some where saying that it could be a three month or more wait. On Monday morning @MuscleNerd teased us with the news we really wanted to hear.
Killing two birds with one stone, @MuscleNerd warned followers of fakers while also giving some clues about an upcoming release date for iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5/4S as well as an indication of other devices that would be supported.
Moments later he added this.
In addition, when asked what devices would be supported, here is what he had to say:
"Yes, every ... 6.1 device variation will be supported. All TWENTY-TWO of them (omg!). Plus atv2 if it's out in time..."
So read it again friends ... every variation he said. To spell out the big ones, that would be an iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5, 4S, 3GS, iPad 2,3,4, iPad Mini, iPod and possibly even the ATV2!
Of course inevitably there came a question about the release of a jailbreak for ATV 3. To that, this is what the longtime developer said.
@arovik: "So those of us with atv3 still have to wait for a bootrom exploit?"
@MusleNerd: "Not necessarily. Although ATV3 uses far fewer services that can be tampered with, it's not isolated. But it can't use this next JB."
I have to admit, we've waited so long I'm a little afraid I may have a heart attack when it actually happens as this is my first time around waiting for a release. As many of you know, I've only just started following the Jailbreak scene in August of last year and well, this go around has definitely been epic!
I am not the only one, however, looking forward to this release as we saw a well-known jailbreaker of the past, @comex, adding his two cents as well.
"It's been... 8 months since the last time I got to peer inside a jailbreak. I can't wait"
Can we all shed a mutual tear of joy now??? My magic 8 ball says "Yes!"
Stay tuned folks for as the man said, this week should be hot regarding the release of an iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5, 4S; iPad 2, 3, 4; iPad Mini and other non-jailbroken devices.
