Those of you who have been fervently awaiting the release of an iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5, 4S, iPad 2, 3, 4; iPad Mini; iPods and other non-jailbroken devices, you probably just finished reading one of my articles as another is hitting the front page of Google.
My message is brief, but basically iOS 6.1 was just released -- the public version we have been waiting on. Just this weekend @pod2g let the jailbreak community know and iOS 6.0 and 6.1 untethered was working and they were simply awaiting this public release to confirm.
"6.0 is jailbroken, 6.1 beta 4 also. Now we are waiting 6.1 to confirm and release," @Pod2g told iDigitalTimes on Thursday in an exclusive interview.
This morning @MuscleNerd followed up with additional tweets.
"I feel bad for those following fake @evad3rs_jb and liking fake FBhttps://www.facebook.com/evad3rs . They're gonna miss the excitement this week ... pretty soon something exciting at http://evad3rs.com ... [and] Yes, every 6.1 device variation will be supported. All TWENTY-TWO of them (omg!). Plus atv2 if it's out in time..."
Of course none of us knew at this point how long it would be before 6.1 was released to the public, but it didn't take too long. Just hours later Twitter was flooded with reports that 6.1 public had been released and was downloadable.
Not 10 minutes after this news hit, @planetbeing came forward with a message we were needing to hear.
"iOS 6.1 appears to have been released! We are reviewing the publicly available version now."
Moments later @pod2g added his two cents.
"I loved Apple's 6.1 beta 5 then final joke. As I said, they can be surprising at times!"
Indeed they are my friends. Indeed they are, but this is not all!
Moments later @planetbeing added to the massive heart attack that this little iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak writer has been preparing for the last 4 months.
"iOS 6.1 appears to be vulnerable to the exploits we are planning on using."
Beyond that, he made sure to let us know, there is still some work yet to be done.
"In terms of code, we have two proof of concepts that we need to merge and polish, so we will not be ready to release until that and testing ..."
Though at this point, it is safe to update to 6.1. Though, make sure it is done correctly. For whatever reason, this time around the Evad3r devs are saying an over the air (OTA) download of the update via your settings is not what should be done. Rather upgrade via iTunes, but make sure to back up your data first as everything will be lost in the process.
Here is what @MuscleNerd explained about why you should upgrade this way.
"OTA is more time consuming for us to test, and it gives you different SHSH blobs than normal restore"
In other words, if you want your jailbreak as soon as possible, do an iTunes restore and update.
We don't have a time frame yet for release @MuscleNerd did tease us with one tidbit that looks like SuperBowl Sunday could be the day of the release, though once again it hasn't been confirmed.
So not much longer now my friends, and the iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5, 4S, iPad Mini, iPad 2, 3, 4, iPod and other non-jailbroken devices will definitely be hitting an unjailbroken device near you.
