Three theatrical release movies wasn’t enough time for Peter Jackson to adapt a  95,000 word book for children, so here comes the release date for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Extended Edition. There will also be a limited theatrical run of The Hobbit Extended Edition movies , culminating in the world premiere of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Extended Edition. A new trailer for The Hobbit Extended Editions theatrical release shows what’s in store for people with hours of time they’d like to burn.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Extended Edition Trailer

The three Hobbit movies, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Edition, and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Extended Edition, will each screen for one night in October.

Here are the theatrical release dates and the runtime of each movie in The Hobbit Extended Edition trilogy:

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition – October 5 – 182 minutes

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Edition – October 7 – 186 minutes

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Extended Edition October 13 – 164 minutes

That brings the total runtime of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit movie series up to 532 minutes or about 3 words of the novel per second (31,920 seconds for 95,356 words in J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel The Hobbit). That’s a little less than two pages of the novel per minute of screentime.

In case the absurd length of these bloated adaptations wasn’t funny enough, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Extended Edition will also be Rated R.

After its theatrical premiere The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Extended Edition will be released on Blu-ray on Nov. 17.
