Is it too early to get excited about GTA V DLC? Of course not! With the debut of GTA Online less than a week away Rockstar has confirmed the first GTA V DLC packs that will be available for download shortly after GTA Online goes live on Oct. 1. First, the good news. The planned GTA V DLC for GTA Online will be free. Absolutely, positively, 100% free. Unlike those cash cards we've been talking about. But free is good. Certainly better than not free. So what're we getting in our free GTA V DLC? Here's the word straight from Rockstar:

The Content Creator: The Content Creator will launch with tools to tailor and publish your own Deathmatches & Races.

The Beach Bum Pack: Featuring 4 new amazing beach fun vehicles, over 300 new items of incredible down tempo leisure wear and 2 new but not remotely relaxing weapons.

Capture the Flag: GTA Online's take on the classic CTF mode including the ability to make your own using The Content Creator.

Heists: This update will introduce full-on cooperative Heist missions that will require careful planning, teamwork and sharp execution - along with the Heist Planning Board for your apartment.

The Beach Bum pack seems like the most traditional, and most snooze-worthy, of the GTA V DLC. Two new weapons seems cool but the arsenal in the game is already pretty big. I'd hate to see GTA V go the Saints Row route and start including ludicrous weapons like dildo swords or whatever. I'd be more excited about the clothing if half the stuff I bought in GTA V actually made it into my wardrobe. But hey, pobody's nerfect.

The rest of the proposed GTA V DLC seems like exactly the kind of thing fans need from Rockstar in order for GTA Online to be a success. Capture the Flag is an online multiplayer staple and the prospect of getting to snatch a flag and hop on a speed bike or attack helicopter and get chased around Los Santos by something OTHER than the LSPD AI makes me tingle in places I can't mention. Especially because the game mode will be tied to another piece of GTA V DLC - the Content Creator.

As we've seen in the modding community, there really is no limit to what fans of a game can accomplish if they have the freedom to do so. And the GTA V DLC that brings us the Content Creator will (hopefully) bring out the best in what the 25 million or so GTA V gamers have to offer. Right now, the mode is limited to CTF, deathmatches and street races. But those three modes alone could add hours of gameplay, particularly if rep and/or cash is on the line. I'm looking forward to CTF games that put the flag on top of Los Santos Tower or races that encompass the entire gigantic map. The deathmatches are the only part of this GTA V DLC I don't quite understand. Isn't the whole city of Los Santos basically a huge deathmatch?

Then there's the cream of the crop. The big one. The GTA V DLC that makes my mouth water and gives me a bonerd the size of a hair spray can. Heists. Having just completed the main game for GTA V I can say with certainty that there were too few heists in the game. What we had was fun, and there is a lot of replayability in the execution of those heists. But I want more. As the philosopher Dane Cook rightfully pointed out men don't only want sex. We want to be part of a heist. What adds even more awesomeness to it is that I won't be heisting with NPCs. I'll have my real life crew of nerds online with me as we coordinate on big scores. Will the gang leader screw everyone out of the loot? Will the guy with the wife and kid get distracted and fail to snipe a crucial guard? These are the kinds of drama I can't wait to experience with the GTA V DLC and GTA Online.

Could it all go wrong? Sure. Even GTA Online is susceptible to trolls or lag or load times. But I have faith in Rockstar that they can pull this off and give us exactly what we want. Or at the very least, what we deserve.
