The GTA 5 release date is still still murky, but a recent leak from Amazon may have just confirmed the new "Grand Theft Auto" game's launch for July 23, 2013. Read on to learn why the latest GTA 5 rumor may be true.

We learned that the GTA 5 release date was set for July 23, 2013 after a IDT reader calling himself Alex shared the information in the comments section of a recent GTA 5 article on our site.

"I just got an email recently from Amazon, they pegged GTA V will ship to me (in US) on July 23rd," he wrote.

We responded to Alex, asking for a screeshot as proof of the latest GTA 5 release date rumor, but have yet to hear back with any confirmation of Amazon's alleged leak.

But that doesn't mean we don't think the GTA 5 release date could really be July 23, 2013. We've already had our fair share of rumors and fake-outs, but there several reasons we think this time might be the real GTA 5 release date.

First of all, the latest GTA 5 release date rumor, July 23, is a tuesday. Unlike all the alleged "Grand Theft Auto" leaks we've see in the past few months this new one from Amazon rings true because in America video games come out on Tuesday.

Second, may "Grand Theft Auto" fans have pointed out that while previous launches in the series all took place in October, the delays for GTA 4 (which hit stores in October 2007) mean that the GTA 5 release date could arrive pretty much anytime.

The third reason we believe that the GTA 5 release date is set for July 23 is that if it was any closer Rockstar wouldn't be so tight-lipped about the new game.

"If they were planing to release GTV in two months from now they would be having interviews and media blowouts like crazy to hype this game up," notes IDT commenter calling themselves "nope."

The one big flaw in the latest GTA 5 release date rumor is that Rockstar has already confirmed that the game will come out in spring 2013, and as IDT commenter "lubu" has pointed out, "May is the last month of spring. They always release their games in May, so it's May."

While there's little proof that the GTA 5 release date will arrive in May 2013, the launch rumor does adhere to Rockstar's promise that "Grand Theft Auto" fans would get their hands on the long-awaited sequel this spring.

Lubu also points out that a May GTA 5 release date would make sense since in the past few years Rockstar has release its biggest titles in that month, including "Red Dead Redemption" in May 2010, "L.A. Noir" in May 2011, and "Max Payne 3" in May 2012.

Do you think the GTA 5 release date will arrive on July 23 or earlier in May 2013? And will you buy a copy when the new "Grand Theft Auto" game finally comes out? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Earlier this week we reported another GTA 5 release date rumor that came from IDT commenter Nick Ritenour. He claimed that Microsoft had leaked the official launch as March 24 after he pre-ordered the game.

"I preordered it from Microsoft...says shipping/release date is March 24. This doesn't mean it's correct lol...but usually if it's not known they list it as TBA," he revealed.

Another IDT Australia-based IDT commenter claimed the know that the GTA 5 release date is actually set for April 24.

"I have pre-ordered Grand Theft Auto V at the Australian retailer JB-HI-FI," wrote the commenter calling himself Matt. "I recently updated my pre-order with them and I directly asked when this game will be released, they responded without hesitation and said April 24 2013 (Australian release date). They continued to explain to me that Rockstar Games had notified them of this information. It also says the release date on my pre-order receipt April 24 2012. True story."

A third IDT commenter didn't have a specific GTA 5 release date to share, but speculated that we may learn the launch day by the end of January.

"The end of this month we are getting the game cover. Maybe then they'll finally give up the release date, been waiting a long time, just wanna get that Jeremy can and burn the sh*t out of things already. Can't wait R* you're the best," wrote Mxk.

We've also heard rumors from The Examiner pegging the GTA 5 release date for March 26. However, the online "news site" stated that they were "highly skeptical" of the rumor.

We also heard from German electronics chain Saturn that the GTA 5 release date is set for March 15. This rumor was picked up by PCGames.

The GTA 5 release date rumors will likely continue to fly until Rockstar Games finally reveals the official launch day. For "Grand Theft Auto" fans, every day of waiting is torture. Don't believe us, check out this Twitter posts:
