Many "Game of Thrones" season 5 spoilers were confirmed during San Diego Comic Con 2014 including the Penance Walk. The Penance Walk will see Cersei Lannister lose her aura of power as she has her head shaved, is stripped naked and then is forced to march across King's Landing as a mob jeers and insults her. The naked walk is done as punishment for Cersei having extramarital affairs. She also faces the accusation of incest at this time. It's an important scene so we knew that it would be included, though we weren't sure how early in "Game of Thrones" season 5 we would see it. It turns out that we may see it earlier than anticipated according to Watchers On The Wall:

Here goes. We heard that HBO asked the Dubrovnik city council to allow filming of a scene in which a naked actress walks from the Dubrovnik cathedral to the Sponza Palace entrance (readers of course know who that is). The scene will require about 500 extras. As the map (courtesy of Sue) shows, the two locations are set at opposite ends of the old city's main thoroughfare, Stradun.

In "Game of Thrones" season 5 the Penance Walk is intended to be disempowering and humiliating to Cersei. It shows that she has lost her power and lost her supporters. It also reflects the great strength of the Faith as the new High Sparrow takes more power for himself and establishes an increasingly theocratic rule. Much of this is due to Cersei's actions as she allowed the restoration of the Faith Militant. Some of the comments made about the Penance Walk emphasize the loss of power on the part of Cersei. The High Sparrow says, "The wickedness of women is well-known, and all women are wantons at heart, given to using their wiles and their beauty to work their wills on men." Her own uncle Kevan Lannister thinks, "Cersei was soiled goods now, Her power at and end."

It sounds like the Penance Walk will have as many as 500 extra's who will witness Lena Headey's naked walk. In a "Game of Thrones" interview that took place before season 4, Headey commented that she knew about the Penance Walk and what it entails, she said she had spoken to David Benioff and D.B. Weiss about it, "We talk about it a lot because I love kind of grab David and Dan and you're like, 'What are you thinking?' And they love to tease you. They love to wind you up. Sometimes you think, 'oh, they're being serious,' because it's terrifying."

Headey expressed that she is reluctant to be fully naked for the Penance Walk, "I think, you know, it's interesting, that part for me. I've been very adamant about keeping her kind of clothed because I think that's part of her power. And she can still be sort of sexual and weird and female, but she doesn't have to be naked. And I think it makes for a more shocking disempowering moment when this happens. So, we'll see. I'm a little scared."

Of course the whole point of the Penance Walk in "Game of Thrones" season 5 is to be disempowering to Cersei. In the book series the comments that upsets her the most comes from the men and women who look at her naked body and comment on how she has become older and less attractive, "She did not feel beautiful, though. She felt old, used, filthy, ugly. There were stretch marks on her belly from the children she had borne, and her breasts were not as firm as they had been when she was younger. Without a gown to hold them up, they sagged against her chest." Some fans are speculating that Lena might wear pasties or it the nude scene might be done so it doesn't show private parts. On the other hand Lena Headey isn't new to nude scenes, she had a fair amount in "300" and this "Game of Thrones" we are talking about. HBO has never shied away from nude scenes and they're not likely to now.
