"Game of Thrones" season 4 spoilers time again, and, while we wait for the DVD release date, this time our subject is the biggest mystery in the series right now - whether or not Lady Stoneheart is going to show up (last time, we discussed whether or not Joffrey ever gets what he deserves). Thing is, it's really a dumb question. Because the answer is pretty clearly yes. The only question is when. But first, let's do a spoiler break and watch the Benny Hill Red Wedding.
"Game of Thrones" Season 4 Spoilers: Who Lady Stoneheart Is
Hey guys, before we get to Lady Stoneheart, remember the Red Wedding? Well, as we saw, in the aftermath King Robb Stark, First of His Name, suffered the very ignominious and gruesome fate of having his direwolf's head sewed onto his own body. So that's the end of him, obviously. And Catelyn Stark got her throat slit in... one of the more gruesome scenes I've ever seen. So that's the end of her. Obviously.
Except, and this right here is one of the biggest "Game of Thrones" season 4 spoilers, it isn't. Because Catelyn Stark comes back. If you're a book reader, you obviously know that already. If you aren't, well, hold onto your seats/hats/seat-hats: Catelyn Stark is very, very dead. But that doesn't mean Catelyn Stark is gone. Remember our friend Beric Dondarrion, whose buddy Thoros of Myr keeps bringing him back from the dead? Well, yeah.
At the very end of "A Storm of Swords," the last chapter in fact, Beric Dondarrion stumbles across Lady Catelyn's body on the riverbank, three days after the Red Wedding. Her body is rapidly decomposing and, of course, her throat is still cut. Beric Dondarrion, who has been revived around nine times by that point, is not doing so hot. And, remembering his oath to Ned, he decides to give his life to bring back Catelyn Stark.
But, "Game of Thrones" season 4 spoilers alert, Catelyn Stark is nearly too far gone. She does come back to life, but she is far decayed: with her throat cut, she can't speak, and she has lost much of her humanity. But she lives, and takes Beric Dondarrion's place as head of the Brotherhood Without Banners. And it changes into a ruthless, merciless Frey murdering machine of an organization.
"Game of Thrones" Season 4 Spoilers: Will Lady Stoneheart Be In The Show?
So will any of this actually be in the "Game of Thrones" season 4 spoilers? Michelle Fairley, who played/plays Catelyn Stark, recently joined a USA show, "Suits." But that's just a recurring role, and Lady Stoneheart would be at best recurring, maybe even guest roles - we don't see her in person again for a very long time. The two could easily work together.
In an interview with Vulture, I think Michelle Fairley gave up the ghost on these particular "Game of Thrones" season 4 spoilers about Lady Stoneheart:
Q: You've inhabited her for so long. Is it hard to let Catelyn go?
A: [Takes a deep breath] I've had three amazing years working on this incredible series, and I've completely fallen in love with the character. She is infuriating sometimes [laughs] because she is so honorable. And she does constantly do the right thing. But she's a driven woman. She's strong.
Notice two things with respect to Lady Stoneheart: Michelle Fairley uses the present tense, even months after filming the episode. And she takes a deep breath to pause and collect her thoughts, choosing words carefully to avoid giving anything away. But that present tense does give it away.
Besides, as far as "Game of Thrones" season 4 spoilers go, it's safe to say Lady Stoneheart will be in it; Benioff and Weiss have changed relatively few big plot points, and nothing truly major. So the question is not whether we'll see Lady Stoneheart, the practically undead Catelyn Stark, but when. Season premiere? Season finale? After the Purple Wedding? The world will never know. Until next year or whatever.
