It's been a great week for "Elder Scrolls Online" fans, thanks to a couple of recently published interviews with game director Matt Firor. The interviews reveal quite a bit of new information about Zenimax Online's first foray into the "Elder Scrolls" franchise.

Only a few days removed from a two-part interview with The Guardian, which included a number of revelations about the Zenimax Online's plans for Player-versus-Player (PvP) combat in "Elder Scrolls Online," game director Matt Firor spoke with The Penny Arcade Report about the game's single-player campaign and how the studio hopes to keep things feeling epic for thousands of gamers simultaneously.

According to Firor, all of the story missions found in "Elder Scrolls Online" will be solo, instanced quests which force players to rely on their own abilities (along with those of a handful of story NPCs) and their own inventories to survive. The team at Zenimax Online believes the single-player focus will help keep players feeling as heroic as the narrative implies, while still allowing for thousands of said heroes to be gathering in cities and towns in places like Morrowind or Cyrodiil.

First, the main story about your soul being stolen by the Daedric Prince Molag Bal is 100 percent solo and instanced, so that you never see other players while doing it," Firor told The Penny Arcade Report. "As most of this story takes place in Coldharbour, Molag Bal's plane of Oblivion, it feels natural that you alone -- with other characters in the story -- are standing up to the dark forces that are menacing Tamriel."

During his discussions with The Guardian, Firor also answered one of the most common player questions regarding "Elder Scrolls Online" gameplay and also let loose a few new details about the PvP action set to debut in the first "Elder Scrolls" MMORPG.

Firor revealed that would-be-thieves won't be able to rely on the "Elder Scrolls" franchise's infamous Pickpocket ability, which many players have used to loot anything/everything they could find in games like "Skyrim," largely because the developers couldn't find a way to include the ability that didn't break the game for other "Elder Scrolls Online" players. He also confirmed that siege weapons and fortifications would both feature heavily in some of the "Elder Scrolls Online" PvP content; however, Firor stopped short of offering specific weapon/building examples.

"Elder Scrolls Online" is expected to be released later this year, though Zenimax Online has yet to confirm an official release date of any kind. The development studio is also currently accepting applications from those interested in joining the "Elder Scrolls Online" beta test when it launches sometime during early 2013.
