"Downton Abbey" season 5 spoilers are coming out now that "Downton Abbey" has been officially renewed for another season by ITV. "Downton Abbey" season 5 is expected to return to in fall of 2014 for UK viewers on ITV but not till 2015 for US viewers who are only now just getting "Downton Abbey" season 4 on PBS with the "Return to Downton Abbey" season 4 preview and recap hosted by Susan Sarandon. "Downton Abbey" season 4 picked up following the shocking death of Matthew but it looks like we will see "Downton Abbey" season 5 spoilers with an equally shocking death.

"Downton Abbey" season 5 spoilers mean that we could see a serious shake up for the casting of the show. There is a chance that Elizabeth McGovern who plays Lady Cora the family matriarch (short of the Dowager Countess) could die, because McGovern has expressed a desire to leave the show. The reason the show writers wrote Lady Sybil and Cousin Matthew along with Miss O'Brien out of the show is because all the actors desired to leave. Lady Sybil and Cousin Matthew both suffered shocking and tragic deaths which served to build major plotlines for "Downton Abbey" season 4 particularly with Lady Mary and Branson. Miss O'Brien simply left to take a job in India with little explanation. The traditional strategy "Downton Abbey" has employed when characters have expressed a desire to leave is to have them die. If Elizabeth McGovern as Lady Cora wants to leave the show, it's hard to imagine any exit for her other than death given that she's such a major character and a big figure in the family compared to Miss O'Brien.

"Downton Abbey" season 5 spoilers which suggest the shocking death of Lady Cora will make things difficult for Lady Mary who is just recovering from the loss of Matthew. She has just started to regain interest in potential suitors like Lord Gillingham and Charles Blake. Michelle Dockery said about her role in "Downton Abbey", "People will consider me a part of their lives for however longDownton Abbey lasts. It's a lovely thing to feel as an actor. I get a delivery of letters about once a month. I even had bereavement cards after the last series." In "Downton Abbey" season 5 spoilers another possible death we may see as the show goes on is that of the Dowager Countess, who is already showing signs of old age and frailty and just recovering from a severe bout of illness where she was nursed back to health by cousin Isobel. The death of the Dowager Countess along with Lady Cora would be extremely shocking and traumatic to the Crawley family, who would lose both of their formidable matriarchs in one go.

In "Downton Abbey" season 5 spoilers we might see Maggie Smith, who plays the Dowager Countess expressed an interest in leaving the show and returning to the theater. Maggie Smith said, "I'm very sad because I haven't done anything in theatre to justify this. I wish I had. Doing something on stage at the National the other night was extraordinary. I'd love to do more. I would love to do more theatre work but really, I don't get any offers. I'm with my agent here and I'm told I'm busy for the next year, but after that I would love to do more work on the stage - especially after winning this award. If you could help me put the word out, maybe that would help! Maybe you could put an advert in for me." Meanwhile Elizabeth McGovern, who plays Lady Cora, said she would like to revitalize her music career and that she was thinking about leaving "Downton Abbey" after season 5. McGovern said, "I'm completely obsessed by this musical part of my life. It's new and such a challenge. I would never have dreamed of myself fronting this band like this even five years ago - it was just a little hobby. I found myself writing a verse to a song while I was on set looking at Allan Leech (Tom Branson) saying his lines. I know there is going to be another series but don't know whether I would be up for a season after that."

These are major "Downton Abbey" season 5 spoilers and it would really change the plots and tone of the show if both Elizabeth McGovern and Maggie Smith were to leave. It's hard to imagine that the show would be renewed for a season 6 with both of them gone. In other "Downton Abbey" season 5 spoilers we might see Mike Tyson make an appearance on the show after he expressed some interest in doing so. Mike Tyson told Shortlist magazine that he would like to appear on the show, 'I would. I'm coming to the West End soon for my one-man show, so maybe when I fly to the UK they'll give me a part on 'Downtown Abbey' (sic). I like that show. I'm sure they could give me a part.'' Of course it's hard to imagine the former boxer with the distinctive facial tattoo finding an era appropriate place in "Downton Abbey" season 5, but anything is possible. Meanwhile UK viewers can anticipate the "Downton Abbey" season 4 Christmas special on December 25, 2013 on ITV. The plot of the "Downton Abbey" season 4 Christmas special is as follows,

Summer 1923 The Crawleys are in London for Rose's debutante ball. Martha Levinson and her son join them from the States, much to Violet's displeasure.
