"Downton Abbey" season 5 spoilers are coming as the ITV Christmas special draws near, which suggest that in the trailer that Mrs. Hughes may find evidence that Mr. Bates was responsible for Green's murder in "Downton Abbey" season 5. The "Downton Abbey" season 5 spoilers we've seen so far show Mrs. Hughes picking out a ticket from Mr. Bates coat. The ticket clearly shows that the claim by Mr. Bates of where he traveled are false and show that he traveled to London in order to kill Green. In that case the major "Downton Abbey" season 5 spoiler is that Bates could potentially be brought up on murder charges for a second time, particularly since his secret will be found out not just by Mrs. Hughes but it is also known to Lady Mary and Anna will eventually find out. It's unclear if the household would stand by Mr. Bates for a second time if he is brought up on murder charges, particularly this time since it looks like he might have actually committed it. Latin Times reports:

Season 4 of Downton Abbey ended with a cliffhanger after we found out that Mr. Green, the valet that raped Anna was dead. Everyone is pointing fingers at Mr. Bates as he left the estate for a couple of hours after he figured out Mr. Green was the culprit that molested his wife. Will the secret be out and land Bates back in jail forever? Funny enough, Bates does not appear in the Christmas special photo (above) which could also mean that they will maybe leave the subject for the next season.

In "Downton Abbey" season 5 spoilers we can see in the Christmas special trailer that several major plot points are starting to occur. One of the major one's is the hint that "Downton Abbey" season 5 could be one of the last seasons of the series since both Maggie Smith and Elizabeth McGovern have said that they would like to leave "Downton Abbey" after season 5. Maggie Smith, who plays the Dowager Countess said that she would like to return to the theater and Elizabeth McGovern who plays Lady Cora says she would like to revitalize her movie career. That lends some credence to "Downton Abbey" season 5 being one of the last of the series. It is also being foreshadowed in the trailer of Christmas special. In the "Downton Abbey" season 5 spoilers we see Lady Mary continue to hint at Bates that he was responsible for Green's murder, saying to him that it looks like everyone did something they regretted in London. Similarly we see a cryptic statement by Cora's mother to the Dowager Countess, "My world is coming nearer, and your world is slipping further and further away." That's an interesting quote, and one which could foreshadow the end of "Downton Abbey" after season 5.

A visit to Buckingham Palace isn't the only event on the card for the Crawleys trip to London in the Downton Abbey Christmas special.

While we don't have many "Downton Abbey" season 5 spoilers beyond the Christmas special, we do have a fairly through synopsis, "It's the summer season and as part of Rose's 'coming out,' she is to be presented at Buckingham Palace. The family and servants are at Grantham House, their London residence, preparing for the busy social program. Not one to miss such a grand occasion, Cora's mother, Martha Levinson makes the journey from New York with her playboy son Harold, fresh from his recent brush with the law. Both outspoken and larger-than-life, they make quite an impression amongst certain members of London's high society, in particular with Lord Aysgarth, played by James Fox." We can see in the "Donwton Abbey" Christmas special trailer there is also going to be some continued romantic issues as Lady Mary is pursued by her suitors. We see her dancing with Lord Gillingham while Charles Blake watches, he is clearly jealous. Meanwhile in "Downton Abbey" season 5 it looks like we will see continued romance in the kitchen as Mr. Carson complains about the behavior of some of the young men to which Mrs. Patmore responds, "All women need someone to show a bit of interest now and then."

In "Downton Abbey" season 5 spoilers we will see more of what we can expect for the upcoming season unravel during the "Downton Abbey" Christmas special. The special will air on ITV on December 25 at 8pm. We already know that the major plotline of the episode will be Lady Rose's coming out ball taking place at Buckingham Palace. The Crawley family will end up being caught up in a royal sex scandal, perhaps involving Rose and Edward, Prince of Wales. There's also a chance, perhaps a slim one that we could see Lady Edith reunited with Michael Gregson, or at least find out why he has disappeared. We will also see the addition of some American actors as Paul Giamatti appears as Cora's brother, Harold Levinson, having just gotten off from some trouble in America. Apparently the Dowager Countess takes a liking to him, which is surprising since even his own mother doesn't appear to. It would be interesting to see which plotlines the "Downton Abbey" Christmas special resolves and which ones are left for "Downton Abbey" season 4.
