Having problems with your Apple OSX Mavericks Mail crashing constantly? Are you having trouble sending or receiving emails? Are emails not syncing from Exchange accounts or are inactive accounts continuing to retrieve mail? Is scrolling a problem for you in Apple OSX Mavericks? It seems, as with any new system, users are reporting a number of issues with the new Apple OSX Mavericks -- particularly the mail app not play nicely with Gmail, Exchange Accounts and more. Though we haven't found a solution for every issue, we've attempted to make a list of common Mavericks Mail App problems reported along with solutions provided by members of the Apple community. If you find the article helpful, please share it or if you have some tips to add, share them in the comments below.
1) How to fix Apple OS X Mavericks Mail problems with sending and receiving email messages
A lot of people have reported this issue and a few solutions have been offered on Apple discussion forum here This forum, however, seems to have been the best for troubleshooting people's problems with sending and receiving mail problems. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3276
2) How to fix Apple OSX Mavericks Mail is getting mail from inactive account
Many users have reported old POP accounts having the "include when automatically checking for new messages" box unchecked, yet as soon as Mavericks starts it immediately starts getting messages from the old account. At this point there is no real fix for this other than to de-"enabling" the account, making it disappear. This is not the fix most want but us the only option currently.
3) How to fix problems with no images showing in Apple OSX Mavericks Mail
Users have reported success in using the techniques found on this Apple forum for problems with images not showing up in Mavericks Mail.
4) Apple OSX Mavericks Mail crashes each time the app is opened.
After upgrading to OS X 10.9.1, any users found Mavericks Mail started to slow down or crash repeatedly. At this point there are no reliable fixes from Apple. Hopefully in the next update we will see it.
5) Problems With Exchange Servers and Apple OSX Mavericks Mail
Some users have reported that Mavericks Mail loads it when you open the Mail app, but then no new messages will appear in the Exchange inbox while app is open. Fetch new mail and the Activity Window show "Synchronizing Inbox" but nothing happens unless you close the app and reopen, then the new mail appears. A solution that seems to have worked for many is to alter the setting "get new messages" from automatically to 5 minutes, and it straightens out the issue.
6) Apple OSX Mavericks Mail app problem with scrolling
Since updating to Mavericks, Mail many have noticed the mail app will randomly quit scrolling, and restart Mail is required to enable scrolling again. Though it is a known problem, some have reported that changing scrolling with inertia setting may improve the problem.
6) Apple OSX Mavericks Mail app can't delete messages from the Inbox, or aren't showing up.
OK, this is large Gmail problem that users have been reporting. Basically, they are finding that no matter how hard they try to delete an email in Mavericks, not too much longer later the message reappears in their inbox. Worse yet some can't even see their Gmail messages in Mavericks. There is, however, a way to fix it.
To get Mavericks to delete emails, you have to make sure that Google's "All Mail" folder is visible in Apple Mail. Otherwise, if you try to delete a message from the inbox, the message only disappears temporarily, then reappears moments later. According to a user on the Apple support board,
"It seems like Apple Mail never removes the "Inbox" label from the deleted messages, so the messages just keep reappearing back in the Inbox over & over again."
To get Mavericks Mail to delete Gmail emails, make Google's "All Mail" folder visible to IMAP clients by going to Gmail's "Settings>Labels" page.
Here are some other problems that have been found and reported by concerning Apple OSX Mavericks mail app and Gmail
7) I can't rearrange Gmail mailboxes in Mail's sidebar
Impossible now it seems. They're always in alphabetical order. This isn't a problem with other account types, or with local mailboxes.
8) Mavericks Mail notification badges aren't working.
Notifications unfortunately appear to be significantly off. Several people have reported that that even after a Mail rule successfully moved messages from the Inbox to another Gmail mailbox, the Inbox unread count still included those messages. So basically you can't trust your unread badges to be correct in Mavericks mail.
9) Mail now forces you to use the default locations for Gmail's Sent and Trash mailboxes.
If you choose another mailbox and choose Mailbox > Use This Mailbox For, the submenu listing special mailboxes like "Sent" and "Trash" will be dimmed. Previously remapped mailboxes may appear empty in Mail, giving you no obvious way to see those messages.) This means deleted Gmail messages will always be permanently removed in 30 days even if you set Mail to never delete them, because it's no longer in Mail's control; deletion is done on Gmail's side.
