1) Buy Someone You Love An iPhone 5 Or iPad: Prices Slashed At Major Retailers Like Walmart, Radio Shack and Best Buy

One of the most obvious indicators that a new iPhone release date is on its way is when we see retailers like Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Radio Shack cutting prices on older iPhones and iPads. This week we've seen Wal-Mart cut the price on the 16-gigabyte iPhone 5 to $98. This is a $30 discount from the previous $129 price cut. If you are interested in the even earlier models, the iPhone 4S at Wal-Mart has also been reduced to just $39. There is one catch though: you have to turn in your old iPhone to receive the iPhone 5/4S discount. Plus buyers must sign a two-year contract with a major cell phone service provider like Verizon, AT&T or Sprint. Still, you have to admit, $100 off the original iPhone 5 price is pretty nice!

Radio Shack also has some nice deals that started last week. They've cut the price of iPhone 5, iPhone 4S and 4 by $50 dollars, and what's more, no contract is required for the discount! Finally, T-Mobile, the wild card out of the four major cell phones service providers, also has a deal for you. At T-Mobile the iPhone 5 is now $149 with their new hassle free two-year payment plan. T-Mobile also offers an iPhone trade-in program as well so definitely keep them in mind when price shopping.

Okay, but enough about iPhone. Where can you get a discount on iPads? Wal-Mart is also a winner here as all 10-inch iPads have been cut by $50, with the iPad 3 (Retina Display) coming in at $449 and the iPad 2 discounted to $349. Prices like these can hardly be beat, so while you are waiting for the September 2013 release date of the iPhone 5S and 5C, put a smile on the face of someone you love by getting them one of these nicely discounted older Apple products.

2) Take Advantage of Apple's Generous iPhone Trade-In Program

In preparation for the iPhone 5S/5C release date, Friday, Apple launched a new "iPhone Reuse and Recycling" program that gives customers a number of credit options for trading in their old iPhones. Though Apple had an iPhone trade-in program in place previously, which allowed users to trade in their iPhones for gift cards, now U.S. Apple stores have a trade-in deal too. Simply walk into the store, prove that your iPhone can be powered and that you are a contract-holding customer (don't worry, trade-in won't restart your contract!) and the Genius Bar employee will then assess the phone giving you a pretty nice trade in credit towards a new iPhone 5S or 5C. Though the condition of the older iPhone will obviously impact how much you get back, customers have seen as much as $280 dollar credits given for their old iPhones. According to 9 to 5 Mac, "we're currently hearing an average of about a $250-$253 value for a 16GB iPhone 5 in good condition. A GSM 8GB iPhone 4 will be worth between $120 and $140, while the CDMA version will be worth around $80. Those prices are significantly lower than the trade-in quotes being offered by competing services."

For those customers who don't mind going online and shipping in an older iPhone, Apple offers a trade-in program which gives credit in the form of an Apple gift card. Though other retailers may also offer trade-in programs as well, rarely can they match the discounts you'll receive by doing a trade-in through Apple.

3) Try To Sell Your Old iPhone 5/4S Online

Though older iPhone price cuts are going on in stores in preparation for the next iPhone release date, you can still get a pretty nice price for your older iPhone 5/4S if you sell it on EBay. (Photo: Screenshot)

Even though prices have been slashed significantly this week on the older iPhones due to the upcoming iPhone 5S/5C release date, it's still not a horrible time to try to sell your older device online. Of course many companies including Apple offer a nice trade-in credit for your older iPhone, but for those who don't want a new iPhone or just like cold hard cash in hand, putting your older iPhone 5/4S on eBay is not a bad idea. Most iPhone 5 16-GB models without any damages are selling for $300 or more on the online marketplace so now would be as good a time as any to go ahead and try to sell.

With the unveil of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C coming on September 10, 2013 and the new iPhone release date being pegged for September 20, 2013, it's a sure deal that iOS 7 will be the default operating system on the new devices. Apple showcased the latest iOS 7 at its World Wide Developer's Conference (WWDC 2013) this June, and boy, were we surprised! Even if you are a longtime Apple fanboy, if you aren't familiar with all the changes coming in iOS 7, now would be a good time to school yourself up on what's ahead. Not only has iOS 7 seen a major visual redesign, it also is incorporating numerous changes to the UI, including updated lockscreen options, a new control center for making settings changes quickly and more easily, updates to the app switcher, music player and much more.
