The iPhone 6 release date is still pretty far off in the distance, but nonetheless, speculation concerning the next iPhone's features and specs continue to flood the Internet. In addition, the rumor that the iPhone 5S will be released this summer continues to gather ground as many look to the "S' version of iPhone to likely be the economy version or $300 dollar iPhone we've been hearing about for so long.

Follow Us

In terms of what to expect in the iPhone 6 or when exactly its release date will be, no one seems to be able to pin down as Apple has remained completely mum on the subject and no major leaks or production secrets have made their way to the general public. Still rumors will persist and this is what we've gathered so far concerning the elusive iPhone 6.

iPhone 6 Features, Specs and Rumors

One of the hottest rumors rolling around the internet this week was that Apple may very well be moving forward with the production of a flexible screen for the iPhone 6 as seemed to be hinted at when the company posted an advertisement for engineers who could help with the development for such a technology.

According to AppleInsider, Apple placed a job opening on its website, stating it was looking for a Senior Optical Engineer.

"Apple Inc. is looking for a Display Specialist to lead the investigation on emerging display technologies such as high optical efficiency LCD, AMOLED and flexible display to improve overall display optical performance."

The job listing was soon removed but a screen capture of it was acquired as proof. This listing comes soon after we hear that Apple had filed a patent for a phone-presumably the iPhone 6-with a wrap-around AMOLED screen which would encircle a transparent curved case. Though Apple is notorious for filing patents it never uses, take this patent along with the advertisement, and there is a pretty good chance that could become a reality, giving the next iPhone the curved screen which has been talked about all the way back to 2011.

If the curved and flexible screen does make its way to the iPhone 6, then there is a good chance we would also see the rumors about 3D Facetime capabilities coming to fruition as well as a curved screen could certainly lend itself to the impression of a 3D image.

Without a doubt Apple has been interested in bendable screen technology for a while, as according to PatentlyApple, "one of the advantages of using a polyimide substrate is that the AMOLED display screen can be heated that allows the AMOLED display screen to be configured into any number of shapes. Moreover, once the heat is removed, the AMOLED display will then "remember" the original shape even if temporarily rolled up or flattened out."

In addition to the concept of a flexible screen which can be rolled up or used to display 3D images, it's pretty safe to say a slimmer and lighter phone will be part of the next release, while we may also be looking at an increased screen size, Though some may wonder how this would be possible without moving into the direction of an iPhab, the are some iPhone 6 speculators, who have created concept videos and photos which show how this feat might be accomplished.

iClarified recently featured a concept video in which the iPhone 6 was dreamed beautifully larger, sleeker and lovelier than the last. Here is what iClarified had to say.

"Check out this beautiful rendering by Ran Avni of a concept iPhone 6 featuring a larger display, thinner frame, and no home button.

Apple iPhone 6 - new design, thinner, smaller. iPhone 6 is the best iPhone yet.

The display measures 4.5-inches in size and the body is depicted in both black and aluminum colors.

"

Of course other major release date features and surprises are likely to come in the form of an updated operating system--iOS 7. It's expected Apple will reveal some major software update features at WWDC 2013 , much like we saw last summer when iOS 6 was unveiled. According to Apple Insider, "Apple Internet Software and Service chief Eddy Cue is believed to be working to improve existing services like iCloud and Maps, but at the same time is planning to launch new initiatives". Some ruors have emerged concerning what to expect in the latest Apple software, which would be expected to debut on the iPhone 6 including a new service called iRadio that would be a freemium streaming radio service.

In addition iPhone 6 could have a new display feature which would do away with the grid-lock system we've grown accustomed to. Though this feature has been available for quite some time to those in the jailbreak community, it would be a new and welcomed feature in the native iOS.

There has also been plenty of talk that the next iPhone could include an IR blaster feature, which would turn the phone into a remote control into the phone, bringing it up-to-date with competitors like HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4.

Though at this point these are all simply rumors and speculation, we'll keep an eye out for anything new that may surface regarding the iPhone 6 and bring that to you here, at iDesignTimes.

As the first quarter comes to a close, rumors concerning the iPhone 5S and 6 release dates are popping up everyday. Rumors about specs, features and changes to software and hardware are all over the place as daily a multitude of individuals are checking the news for latest leak on the iPhone 5S or 6.

As we do each week, we've rounded up the latest iPhone 5S or 6 release date specs and rumors rolling around out there and are bringing them to you.

Check out what's surfaced so far.

iPhone 6, 5S Release Date Rumor 1: Home Button without Fingerprint Sensor

the iPhone 6, 5S has been rumored to feature NFC and a fingerprint sensor, however if the leaked photos we saw last week are accurate, this may not be the case. (Photo: screenshot MacRumors.com)

So everyone has been in a tizzy believing that the iPhone 5S or 6 may be featuring some kind of "killer" feature that would place the phone on top of the competition and with that, rumors have been spreading that this featured spec would be NFC capability and a fingerprint sensors. It seems pretty logical that NFC would likely be a feature included in the next iPhone 5S or iPhone 6 and there are some reports to support this. According to The China Times, Taiwanese firm Chipbond will provide chips that would allow NFC to be possible in the new Apple device.

In addition to providing chips for NFC in the iPhone 6 the same company, ChipBond has also purportedly secured a contract with Apple in which they would also supply touch screen capabilities for  fingerprint sensors in the iPhone 6 or 5S. This in concert with the NFC capabilities would allow for mobile payment while to enhancing security and providing a way to authenticate payments.

However, some of those hopes were dashed late last week as leaked photos emerged which purportedly showed the Home button for the iPhone 5S as well as a new vibration button. The images were posted to a Japanese forum and publicized by NWE, and one thing all noted is that though there are some changes from the Home button of the iPhone 5, it seems pretty clear that if this is indeed the iPhone 5S hoe button, that a fingerprint sensor will not be included. Of course it could be that this technology is still being developed and will arrive when the iPhone 6 release date does, still it's a little disappointing.

iPhone 6, 5S Release Date Rumor 2: Indoor Mapping via WiFiSLAM

The internet has been buzzing with a new iPhone 6 rumor this Monday morning as it seems Apple has paid $20 million for an indoor location tracking start-up WifiSLAM. After the debacle the Apple iOS 6 maps feature was, this acquisition suggests the company may be working on more accurate location-based services for all iOS devices.

Though mapping may seem like nothing special in a smartphone these days as pretty much everyone on the market does incorporate some form of GPS, one of the problems with the technology is that it doesn't work so well inside of buildings. This new WiFiSLAM technology could take advantage of WiFi if you're trying to find your way around busy crowded places like shopping malls, convention centers and other places where GPS pretty much dies.

Some reports speculate that the company's upcoming iPhone 6 could receive indoor location capabilities. With Google hot on its heels having worked for the last year on similar technologies, this is one innovation Apple probably needs to make a reality in order to stay up with the completion upon the release of the iPhone 6.

iPhone 6, 5S Release Date Rumor 3: Ultra Sensitive Sharp Touchscreen

This iPhone 6 spec rumor just emerged last week and has been gaining some ground as it seems Sharp Corp. is working on new display technology which would yield an eight times higher level of sensitivity to the capacitive touch screen found on Apple's next iPhone. The technology is made specifically for 5-inch smartphone displays to 60-inch for HDTV, adding one more nudge to the rumor that the iPhone 6 would feature a larger screen size. The screen is said to be sensitive enough that users could scribble notes on the screen with just an ordinary pen or pencil.

The original report came to Apple fanboys from Patently Apple, a website that stays abreast of latest patents submitted by Apple. In looking at the new patents, a larger more responsive touchscreen.

Now on Monday, images of the ultra-sensitive touchscreen by Sharp have surfaced as well on the Patently Apple website, fuelling the rumors that Apple will be using the technology upon the release of the iPhone 6. According to PatentlyApple, the new technology will allow Apple to drastically reduce the display's thickness, possibly making the iPhone 6 the lightest Apple smartphone yet. According to Patently Apple, production of the new displays began on March 15, 2013 so it's very likely this will be the face of the new iPhone 6 though it probably won't we ready in time for the iPhone 5S release date,

iPhone 6, 5S Release Date Rumor 4: June or July Release of Budget iPhone

This rumor refuses to die and has surfaced again this week that Apple is looking to release the iPhone 5S in June or July along with a new iPhone that is cheaper-in a word a "budget" model.

According to analyst Amit Daryanani of RBC Capital Markets the cheaper iPhone will lack Apple's trademark 'Retina' screen. Here is what the report noted:

"Our supply-chain checks indicate that AAPL is working to launch multiple new phones in the June/July time-frame this year. Specifically, AAPL will launch the iPhone5s and a more affordable but lower-end iPhone at the same time, in either late CYQ2 or early Q3. The low-end iPhone will have the same 4" form factor as the iPhone5 but will have plastic casing and no retina display. With a lower price-point, AAPL will be able to target a growing and important part of the Smartphone market (sub-$400 price-band)."

Many believe that the cheaper iPhone will have a polycarbonate body and run about $300 dollar cutting the iPhone 5 price in half. In addition other reports have stated that Apple may use Qualcomm's Snapdragon SoC for low-cost iPhone, instead of its own processors, allowing for the price to be kept low on that front as well.

Other iPhone 6, 5S Release Date Rumors

Of course there have been numerous other rumors to suface concerning what specs will be present in the iPhone 5S or the iPhone 6 when released, including the following:

  •  A variety of colors
  •  A variety of sizes
  •  Eyetracking technology
  •  Wireless or solar charging
  •  Megapixel camera
  •  iPhone projector with laser keyboard and screen.
  •  Improved 4G LTE network support worldwide.

Phone 6, 5S Release Date 2013: 6 Rumored Specs and Features We've Gathered So Far [VIDEO]

iPhone 6 release date rumors are running rampant, while this latest

The iPhone 5S or iPhone 6 is likely to be the center of speculation for the next few months now that Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy S4 at their NYC "UNPACKED" event last Friday.

Though little has come down the pipelines yet concerning specs, features and release dates for the next iPhone, be it the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 or even the budget model we've been hearing so much about, here is a quick collection of all the release date rumors we've seen cropping up repeatedly across the web.

iPhone 6 Release Date Rumor 1: 4.8 Inch Retina Display

This is probably the latest and hottest rumor about the iPhone 6 out there, but at the same time, the most unfounded. A concept video which surface this weekend showcasing iPhone 6 with a retina display of 4.8 inches, a 16 megapixel iSight camera, dual LED flash and a home button that has been redesigned looks amazing. Coming in a metal shell for increased durability. This is one concept/rumor I'd be happy to see surface.

iPhone 6 Release Date Rumor 2: NFC Capabilities and Fingerprint Recognition

After all the hype we heard last summer about the iPhone 5 including NFC capabilities, this was probably the one missing feature most were disappointed about when September rolled around. FC or near field communication technology has become a staple of many android phones, including rival smartphone, the Galaxy S3. With this in mind, it seems pretty obvious NFC would likely be a feature included in the next iPhone 5S or iPhone 6 and there are some reports to support this.

Here is what the China Times report had to say concerning NFC and fingerprint sensors:

The iPhone 5S outgoing will support NFC and fingerprint recognition, fingerprint is more security than passwords, fingerprints can not be copied and will not be stolen, most secure mobile payment device allows Apple iPhone 5S.

This is supported by the fact that numerous analysts predicted the iPhone 5S could include fingerprint technology including Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who posted in January an Apple roadmap for 2013.

iPhone 6 Release Date Rumor 3: Updated A7 Processor Chip

So according to DigiTimes, a source who's information you do have to take with a grain of salt, Apple's A7 processor is purportedly in the final stages of design and therefore production could begin in May or June. The report states that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will "tape out Apple's A7 processor on a 20nm process in March," meaning that the circuit design is nearly complete and the photomasking process is taking place. TSMC expects that the A7 chip will go into production in June but will not be shipping until 2014.

To me this seems a bit late for the iPhone 6, as most believe that model will arrive sometime this fall, but with no solid timeline on even the iPhone 5S, it's plausible that we could be looking at a 2014 release on the iPhone 6 and the updated A7 chip. I guess at this point, only time will tell. A recent CNET report however, did disclose that Apple is designing new products around TSMC's 20-nanometer process.

"Apple, in fact, is designing products now based on the TSMC's 20-nanometer process" , a source for CNET who is familiar with TSMC's plans said.

iPhone 6 Release Date Rumor 4: Eye Tracking

So even though most will say this is a copy-cat move on the part of Apple, it wont be long anyway, it seems before most smartphones o the market will be featuring some form of eye-tracking technology including the iPhone 6. Thanks to a brilliant little start-up company in Israel called uMoove, eye- and head-tracking technology will soon be made available to anyone, including companies like Apple and software developers who make mobile apps.

The makers of uMoove have been on the project for over 3 years and have managed to track eye and head movements using a front-facing camera. Last Tuesday the company announced it would be only a little more time before the software tool kit to apply its technology would become available.

"We made a very important decision that the technology is so diverse that we cannot just allow it to be confined," said Moti Krispil, founder of uMoove. At this time the uMoove Web site is open to register for its software tool kit on. With innovations like uMoove available across devices, it would be silly for Apple not to take advantage of the technology in its next iPhone device.

iPhone 6 Release Date Rumor 5: Wireless Charging

The rumor that the iPhone 6 and other devices such as the iPad 5 will contain wireless charging capabilities is fairly widespread, and one I think it a pretty good possibility. Apple has already been found submitting patents for the iPad Smart Cover which would hold not only battery cells, it would also allow for wireless charging capabilities and in a true stroke of genius a series of solar cells that would allow the iPad 5 to run and charge with sunlight. Of course I am not sure if all that could/would be rolled into the iPhone 6 cover, but it certainly might be a feature people would desire. Still I have to laugh as one reader @StoneTad noted,

"I'm happy with my lightning cable, I'd be happy with a better battery, instead of the ability to wirelessly charge this one."

This is one point I think most iPhone 5 users would agree on. Better battery power would far out trump the ability to charge it wirelessly, though the solar power thing that I think could catch on.

iPhone 6 Release Date Rumor 6: Network Improvement

Up to this point ,the iPhone has not been capable of supporting worldwide 4G--a fact which is painfully obvious for some who would love to own an iPhone 5 internationally. This however, has been a rumor that continues to surface. The iPhone6 will very likely support a worldwide 4G network. This would be helpful particularly as Apple has worked to secure a larger foothold in the Asian market, particularly in China. We've seen report of a new chip by Qualcomm that would enable the iPhone 5S or 6 to support global LTE. If this chip does actually come to fruition in the next iPhone 5S or iPhone 6, I think Apple could see some gains in its international market for sure.

As always, everything we have listed here are simply rumors concerning the iPhone 6, it's release date and spec--some with more supporting evidence than other but either way, we'll keep a eye out for new possibilities and be sure to send that news your way.
