Walking Dead Season 5 Premiere Date: October 12 Return Likely For AMC Series
After last night's cliffhanger season 4 finale there's only one question on the minds of Walking Dead fans the world over: when is the Walking Dead coming back? Well, according to a combination of common sense and speculation the Walking Dead season 5 premiere date will likely be Sunday, Oct. 12. The Walking Dead season 5 is going to start filming soon and, according to producers, will return in October of this year. Why Sunday, Oct. 12? Because of the last three season premieres. Take a look:
We can also expect to get the same mid-season split we've seen the last few years as well. So expect another big cliffhanger ending at least one more time this year. So now that we know when the Walking Dead season 5 premiere will be, we can answer the second biggest question on the minds of Walking Dead fans: what next? And while the comics contain some spoilers the show hasn't been afraid to switch it up a little, so we can't guarantee that the comic storyline is where we'll be heading next season. But we can guarantee one thing: Rick and Co. are heading to Washington, D.C. According to a casting call, "Season 5 begins with Rick and the group ... heading to Washington D.C. where they meet new danger and a new enemy. Once again, Rick must do whatever it takes to keep the rest of the group safe."
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, series creator Robert Kirkman assured fans that the season 4 cliffhanger will be resolved right away when we watch the Walking Dead season 5 premiere on Oct. 12.
"I think that people are going to be pretty excited when we come back in season 5. We'll be revealing very quickly what it is that is going on and what it is that Rick Grimes and everybody else are up against," he said. "We're not going to be keeping that close to the vest for too very long. So in our big season 5 premiere we'll get some answers."
Kirkman also told Entertainment Weekly that he doesn't want the show to feel "formulaic," which is why there were no major deaths during the Walking Dead season 4 finale. Seasons 2 and 3 had ended with some major losses and Kirkman didn't want fans to know something was coming.
"There's always going to be big deaths in this show. But we never want to get to point where we're like, 'Oh, it's been five episodes without a big death. There's totally going to be a big death this episode. Oh, there it is!' We don't want it to ever be predictable," he said.
So while Walking Dead the show won't be predictable, the Walking Dead season 5 premiere date is. Look for the Walking Dead season 5 to return on Oct. 12, 2014. In the meantime, thank the TV gods that Game of Thrones starts next week. Dragons might not be zombies, but it helps.
