Apple Device Release Dates 2014: When New iPad, iPhone, iWatch, iTV Products Are Expected To Launch This Year
Apple is likely gearing up to debut a slew of new devices as spring 2014 nears. Gathering all of the rumors, reports and speculation, a timeline of Apple device release dates can be fashioned. Consumers can anticipate launches as soon as April, starting with the hyped Apple TV and ending with the iPhone 6, new iPads and the much anticipated iWatch.
Apple will reportedly introduce an Apple TV in April, though the new set-top box isn't expected to be available for retail until months after its debut. The fourth-generation Apple TV, nicknamed the iTV, is said to include an upgraded processor as well as a revamped UI. Rumors also suggest that the Apple TV could tout more apps and Bluetooth game controllers. While the set-top box will probably make its grand appearance in the spring, it reportedly won't be ready for public release until the holiday season due to finalizations on agreements with content providers, i.e. Time Warner Cable.
The latest reports indicate that the iPhone 6 release date could be sooner than expected. Apple typically debuts its new smartphones during a fall event in September, but now a report is suggesting the sixth-generation iPhone could debut in July.
"Recently, the company has been introducing new lineup in September time frame whereas the next generation phones could come out in July this year," Mizuho Securities analyst Abhey Lamba told Street Insider. "The earlier launch will be helpful for Apple as it will ensure significant availability and distribution of the new device during the holiday season."
iPhone 6 rumors believe the device could come in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch variants rather than its current 4-inch size. Other rumored iPhone 6 specs include a new camera, sapphire screens as well as a nearly invisible bezel on the phone's sides. Will the iPhone 6 release in July? Reports are unconfirmed and describe the summer release date as a "game changer," though a non-September launch isn't entirely impossible. Maybe Apple is mixing things up this year.
iPad rumors have been ample and varied. In Apple fashion, the latest tablets will launch during a special fall event around September or October 2014. Unlike the iPhone 6, reports still believe the iPad release date this year will fall towards the end of the year, as per usual. Until recently, rumors believed Apple would be releasing a 12.9-inch tablet, the iPad Pro, towards the end of the year. These rumors have since been debunked, indicating that the only new iPad consumers should expect this year is an upgraded iPad Air. The tech giant may even scrap the iPad Mini devices altogether. The alleged iPad Pro release date will likely be pushed back to 2015 due to a shift in Apple's focus on other devices.
Apple's diverted attention from the massive tablet can be attributed to its focus on its hyped wearable device. The Apple iWatch marks the company's foray into the smartwatch market. The long awaited debut is anticipated to launch alongside the new iPhone devices. This means the iWatch release date will probably take place in September or October 2014. Could a wearable device be among the "new categories" Apple CEO Tim Cook teased this month? Hopefully.
"The great products really come from secret development. You put small teams of great people on them and they aren't bothered by other people commenting on what they're doing while they're doing it", explained Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. "A whole new product category doesn't happen very often. It might happen once a decade. Sometimes you have to wait for one of those to come about."
