‘The Americans’ Season 2 Premiere Date Confirmed: February 2014 And First Six Episodes Locked In For Return Of Cold War Drama [REPORT]
Pagie May Discover The Truth About Her Parents When Series Returns In 'Comrades' In February 2014
"The Americans" season 2 premiere date is set for February 2014 as the series returns to FX. The specific days for the first episode haven't been set yet, but the following episodes have been confirmed, "Comrades", "Cardinal", "The Walk In", "A Little Night Music", "The Deal" and "Behind the Red Door". "The Americans" season 1 had 13 episodes, so we will see 13 episodes for "The Americans" season 2 also. The filming for "The Americans" season 2 began October 9, 2013. The series will pick up where it left off with the possibility that Pagie may pick up on the fact that her parents are KGB agents and as the increasingly moribund Soviet Union makes greater demands on its agents.
With "The Americans" season 2 premiere date coming the casting has largely been settled with Margo Martindale returning as the KGB handler Claudia, who handles Elizabeth and Philip. It was confirmed that Martindale would be back for at least one episode following word that she had signed on to a starring role in the new CBS comedy, "The Millers". Martinadale was a major driving force toward the end of season 1, putting Elizabeth and Philip through a quasi-torturous interrogation in order to find out if there was a double agent in the KGB resulting in Elizabeth viciously assaulting her. Relations between them have been strained since then.
When "The Americans" season 2 premiere date roles around we will find that the show intends to change focus from the marriage of Elizabeth and Philip to their family. The information came from Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields, the creators of "The Americans" who spoke to a New York Panel together with the cast members Keri Russell, Matthew Rhys and Noah Emmerich. They said, "The last season was an exploration of marriage. We hope to explore family more in the second season." The means we may see the reveal to Pagie. When we saw "The Americans" season finale Pagie was snooping in her parent's room because she thought her parents were hiding something. There's a decent chance she may discover something that is hard to explain.
On "The Americans" season 2 premiere data as the Soviet Union continues to decline and the Cold War starts to enter it's end with the fall of the Berlin Wall and then subsequent collapse of the Soviet Union it will be interesting to see how Philip and Elizabeth are able to handle that transition Weisberg said, "There was a lot of concern early on that having KGB spies as the heroes of a show was going to be a real problem. Would people be willing to sympathize with that? We talked about it and we worried about it. Are people going to sympathize with bad guys?...But when we cast these guys (Russell and Rhys) and saw them read for the first time, the fear went away overnight...oh, everyone's going to love them!" It's particularly interesting because early on Philip wanted to defect to the US while Elizabeth intended to stay loyal. We will have to see what happens on "The Americans" season 2 when it returns in February 2014.
The Americans is a period drama about the complex marriage of two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington D.C. shortly after Ronald Reagan is elected President. The arranged marriage of Philip (Matthew Rhys) and Elizabeth Jennings (Keri Russell), who have two children - 13-year-old Paige (Holly Taylor) and 10-year-old Henry (Keidrich Sellati), who know nothing about their parents' true identity - grows more passionate and genuine by the day, but is constantly tested by the escalation of the Cold War and the intimate, dangerous and darkly funny relationships they must maintain with a network of spies and informants under their control. Complicating their relationship further is Philip's growing sense of affinity for America's values and way of life. Tensions also heighten upon the arrival of a new neighbor, Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich), an FBI agent. Stan and his partner, Agent Chris Amador (Maximiliano Hernández), are members of a new division of Counterintelligence tasked with fighting against foreign agents on U.S. soil, including KGB Directorate S illegals, Russian spies posing as Americans.
