Killer Instinct Xbox One Launch Trailer Confirms Fulgore and Spinal Not Available Till 2014 [VIDEO]
The Killer Instinct Xbox One launch trailer debuted today since, well, the Xbox One launch is tomorrow. If you've been following the Killer Instinct character roster there are no surprises in the Killer Instinct Xbox One launch trailer but there are a few disappointments. Namely, that fan-favorites such as Spinal and Fulgore won't be available at launch. That's right. Double Helix is delivering only six playable characters for Killer Instinct's Xbox One debut and, of those six, only Jago is free. I'm not complaining about the business model because I think an FTP fighter with pay-to-play characters is a good move for the genre. I'm just curious how much variety fans will get to experience when everyone and their mother is Jago and only a handful of die-hards decide to shell out $20 for the roster. The game does look impressive though
Graphically, Killer Instinct looks sharp as hell. I've seen the game live several times and it is a well-executed reboot of the original. Great environments, crisp animations and the best combo voice-over in existence all add up to a genuine dose of next-gen nostalgia. But the Killer Instinct character roster seems light. Only six characters available at launch? I'm not much of a fighter fan but I feel like it won't add up to a deep experience. Consider the fact that this year's other premiere fighter, Injustice: Gods Among Us, delivers 30 total playable characters and I think you see my point. As exciting as the Killer Instinct Xbox One launch is from a nostalgia standpoint, I don't know if there's enough depth among six characters to carry interest in the game into the spring, when Spinal and Fulgore launch. Here are the six characters you'll get to choose from/pay for when Killer Instinct releases on Nov. 22:
