'Orange Is The New Black' Season 2 Premiere Date: Actress Selenis Levya Reveals Second Season Will Be 'Deeper'
An "Orange is the New Black" season 2 premiere date news is all purely speculation at this point, though a rough timeline can be drawn out based on cast and crew production details. In case you didn't know, the "OITNB" cast is VERY active on social media. While it appears they were sworn to secrecy on dishing any season 2 spoilers, they are making up for it with PLENTY of behind-the-scenes sneak peeks. It's clear "Orange is the New Black" still has a bit of filming to do before wrapping up second season, meaning a 2014 release date is almost surefire. When next year, you ask? Don't expect an early 2014 premiere. The Litchfield inmates will likely hit your small screens around summer of next year.
While you anxiously wait for visions of orange jumpsuits and a prison yard chicken, let's see what the tightlipped cast has let slip on "Orange is the New Black" season 2. Actress Selenis Levya, who stars as Red's kitchen replacement Gloria Mendoza, dished on what binge-watchers can expect come second season.
"I would have to say that the Kitchen is spicier than ever. We have a lot of good stuff happening, I don't want to ruin it for anyone because I think it's going to be just such a pleasant surprise to everyone, this season coming up. We are all cooking up some real hot stuff in there and there's a lot of interesting characters too, popping in and out, that I think the audience is going to be really pleased with because it's going to change the dynamic of all of it. We're in the middle of shooting it so I don't know how things are going to end up but I can tell you, that as of right now, we are all in it and we are all cooking up real spicy stuff," Levya told the Huffington Post.
Selenis Levya also disclosed that "Orange is the New Black" season 2 will be "deeper" and shed more light on the ensemble cast, including her character Gloria. This further confirms widespread reports that the "OITNB" focus will shift away from a Piper-centric storyline and instead go into the backstories of her fellow inmates. In season 1, viewers caught glimpses into the pre-prison pasts of Pennsatucky (Taryn Manning), Miss Claudette (Michelle Hurst), Red (Kate Mulgrew), Dayanara (Dascha Polanco), Sophia (Laverne Cox) and Tricia (Madeline Brewer). With such a diverse, captivating ensemble of characters, "Orange is the New Black" season 2 will likely continue to rope in viewers with engrossing backstories.
"We're getting to know everyone a little bit more and just when you thought you knew something and you were dead set on it, you're going to discover it's not that," Levya added.
Speaking of "Orange is the New Black" characters, it looks like season 2 will see some new faces. Actress Taryn Manning recently teased that Rosie O'Donnell is hoping to make a cameo on the Netflix original series.
"Rosie O'Donnell, who loves OITNB, expressed her desire to be an extra for a day," Manning told Radar Online.

Aside from Rosie O'Donnell's prospective appearance on "Orange is the New Black" season 2, other names have been thrown into the mix. As previously reported, it's confirmed that "The Wire" actress Deirdre Lovejoy will portray prison therapist Chris Maser in the second season. A much, much less official rumor swirling around reveals "Weeds" alum Justin Kirk could pop up in season 2. Kirk would be reuniting with former "Weeds" colleagues Pablo Schreiber ("Pornstache") and Michael Harney (Healy) if he did, in fact, make an appearance in "OITNB" season 2. Kirk, an open fan of the show himself, told Parade "It could happen," but the news ends there. Regardless, it seems season 2 is bound to thrill viewers. Even actress Alysia Reiner admits that, while she can't divulge any "Orange is the New Black" season 2 spoilers, the second season is going to deliver.
"I can tell you that if I tell you anything I'll end up in orange myself (laughs). We never know anything until we read the next script. I am constantly surprised. I bow to our writers as I just think they are doing amazing work. They keep on writing these amazing stories that are surprising and really make you think and feel and laugh. Rarely is there a script where I don't go 'no way!' or laugh out loud. It's really insanely delightful," Reiner told TVRage.
