'House Of Cards' Season 2 Premiere Date: Finale In Progress; Production Wrapping In A Few Weeks; Premiere For February 2014
Guys, we're so close to "House of Cards" season 2 production being done, which means we're getting closer and closer to the "House of Cards" season 2 premiere - which is looking more and more like it's going to be in February, just like season 1. Let's take a look at how things are going in Frank Underwood's office.
The "House of Cards" season 2 premiere may still be several months off, but in some sense the show is at a high right now. It was nominated for Best Drama Series at the Emmys, a huge get for the first real digital-only TV series, and although it lost to "Breaking Bad" and Kevin Spacey inexplicably lost to Jeff Daniels from "The Newsroom" (seriously, he should have lost to Bryan Cranston instead... or, you know, won), it did sweep up a truly impressive award: David Fincher won the Best Director Emmy for the pilot. The best directed episode of television of the year was a webisode. Take that, broadcast!
All the Emmy buzz means people are more excited about the "House of Cards" season 2 premiere than ever before. Which is good, because production is really breezing along. It's been a long process (all summer, for the long definition of summer), but executive producer and creator Beau Willimon confirmed (via Twitter, a site on the Internet) that there are just a few weeks of principal photography remaining:
And, after the weekend vacation that was the Emmys, the production team is making sure that "House of Cards" season 2 premiere date doesn't get put in jeopardy. They're working really long days, doing night-for-day at 2:30 in the morning on a Friday. That's a long shoot day.
Surprisingly enough, though, the "House of Cards" finale hasn't even been written yet. Or, rather, it was just written yesterday. Beau Willimon locked himself away to get that done, with only a pizza for company, and hasn't been heard from on Twitter since. So I guess it's going well. Or not well.
Regardless, the "House of Cards" season 2 premiere can't be too far off if production is nearly done. Post-production will take another several months - likely right up until the show airs, because that's how television works - but three to four months should cover it. Guys, this series is coming back in February. It's time to start getting excited.
