Pokémon X and Y new images have leaked! While we haven't gotten official word from the Pokémon company yet, the final evolutions of Fennekin / Braixen and Froakie / Frogadier are looking pretty legit. We've seen leaked images of the starters' final evo in the past when discussing Pokémon X and Y news, but these are the most official looking we've seen in a while. The leak is well timed -- we were promised Pokémon X and Y news sometime today from GameFreak themselves, although they used the singular when referring to the evolution we'd see. Maybe the evolution they'll reveal is Chespin's final form. We'll keep our fingers crossed.

The leaked photos of Fennekin and Froakie's final Pokémon evolutions match up with leaks we've heard about the pokes. Fennekin is still rumored to end up being a fire / psychic type in its older age while Froakie is presumed to be a water / fighting combination. Once again to clarify, we haven't gotten official word on whether this set of Pokémon X and Y news is official -- either, or both, images could be fan made. Though if that Braixen evo was made by a fan, it might just be the best mock up we've seen in a long while.

Curiously left out of the leaks is an evolved form for the grass starter Pokémon Chespin. We can't help but wonder if the leaker is showing fans the favorite starters' evos first or is saving the best for last. Chespin / Quilladin's final evolution is rumored to be a grass and dark typing, balancing it well with fire / psychic and water / fighting of the other two. Many have given up on Chespin since they've seen his bulbous middle evo Quilladin. But we're holding out hope for the grass-type Pokémon X Y starter. Maybe the evil little guy will become a cool looking monstrosity in its eldest form. Or, you know, maybe not.

It will be interesting to see if the evolution announced today is not a starter Pokémon. Many Pokémon X and Y new mega evolutions have been released thus far so the company may forgo spoiling another. Add to that the fact that we saw the last set of starter evolutions announced all at once, not one by one. We assume the Pokémon company will do the same when releasing the 3rd evos. It's tough to say what will be shown off today. Though whatever it is, it hardly matters -- huge numbers of people have preordered the game and are all set to buy it. We can't imagine anything will change our minds at this point. (That Chespin evo though might be a deciding factor for some).

Regardless of how fans may feel about these new evos, they can always fall back on knowing the original starter Pokémon are being included in X and Y as well. With Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle being made available to trainers early in the game, players can choose any gen 6 starter as well as one from the first generation. Add to this the fact we'll be able to download a Torchic if we buy the game early enough, there's basically no shortage of starter Pokémon coming to this game. The icing on the cake, however, may have to be the mega evolutions, which Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle and Torchic all have access to in their final form. We can't know for sure, but we imagine all other starters prior to gen 6 will receive mega evolutions as well. As for the gen 6 pokes, check out their possible Pokémon X and Y new starter evolutions below!

UPDATE 9.29.2013 [1] We just don't know what to believe when it comes to Pokémon X and Y new leaks. It seems that Greninja may be the actual fully evolved form of Froakie. Leaked images of the Pokémon X and Y water type look eerily similar to Froakie and Frogadier. Though the poke does lack the cloud-design we see in its supposed past evolutions -- being replaced with a scarf which we assume may actually be its...tongue? While we can't speak on the validity of this leak either, redditor iconfus has compared the leaked images to an official screen we saw in a trailer a while back.

UPDATE 10.3.2013 [2]: We've finally seen the actual evolutions for Chespin, Fennekin and Froakie. We can't lie, the ones above were pretty off, and may be a bit better? We'll let you be the judge. See what Chesnaught, Delphox and Greninja look like here
