The Avengers 2 Release Date Confirmed: Age Of Ultron Premiere Officially Set [VIDEOS]
The Avengers 2 release date, eh? Aren't you getting a little bit ahead of yourself? Okay, fine: we'll skip ahead to May 1, 2015, when we will finally get to see RDJ don that suit again, and a whole bunch of other exciting things. But mostly the suit. Why so long, though? It's alright: there's so much Marvel Cinematic Universe coming before 2015.
We've got a lot to get through before the Avengers 2 release date, though. First and most exciting comes out actually quite soonfully: Thor: The Dark World, the sequel to Thor, is due out on November 8, 2013. The picture, which teams Thor and a much begrudging Loki against some Dark Elves, of all things, has an impeccable pedigree. The first Thor was directed by sometime brilliant, sometime hammy, oftentimes both Shakespeare-fan Kenneth Branagh. Thor: The Dark World comes to us from Alan Taylor, the acclaimed director of some of the best episodes of Game of Thrones, including the one where Ned Stark is convicted of certain crimes. Ummm... Yes please?
Thor 2 will start setting stones in place for The Avengers 2 release date. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is out on April 4, 2014 and, besides for inciting militaristic fervor, will with any luck improve on the drab first offering, the worst besides for the not quite entirely in continuity Hulk movies. If, like me, you think Captain America is an unbelievable square, then Black Widow (ScarJo)'s role as his foil and possible romantic interest makes the movie substantially more appealing, although the villain seems not-so-hot. We'll see.
It's part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it's unclear how closely Guardians of the Galaxy (out August 1, 2014) will tie in with The Avengers 2 release date. GotG is pretty out there, not as far as Marvel comics go, but as far as superhero movies go. It's set mostly in space, with a whole ensemble of characters non-comic fans have never heard of, and a pretty out-there story. I don't mean to count it out. But it's the toughest sell of the series so far, by a long shot, and doesn't have many big stars... except Bradley Cooper, playing an intelligent raccoon, and Vin Diesel, playing an intelligent tree. Seriously. This one's going to be tough.
The other big question mark before The Avengers 2 release date, and possibly the most significant, is Agents of SHIELD, the new television show that premieres on September 24, i.e., basically right now. It's not about superheroes; it's more about the normal folks on the ground at SHIELD and how they manage the crazy organization they are a part of. It's executive produced by Joss Whedon, and unlike the other movies, he has a pretty big hand in it. If it succeeds, it could be the most direct segue into Avengers 2 (AKA The Avengers: Age of Ultron).
So The Avengers 2 release date on May 1, 2015 is still very far away. But, except for Iron Man and The Hulk, we'll get to see all the leads again at least once before that. Lots of superheroes for us!
