Fear not, Plants vs. Zombies loving PC gamers, because it seems we'll be getting our own chance to experience the inevitable madness that will follow the franchise's baby steps into the world of class-based, third-person shooters with the upcoming launch of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare is currently slated to hit Xbox One first, though Popcap has already confirmed launches on the Xbox 360 (same day) and PC (soon after), and the studio says Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare will be headed to other platforms in the future. While launches on the PS3, PlayStation 4 and PS Vita seem all but guaranteed, hopefully with Cross-Buy support in-tow, there are undoubtedly millions of Wii and (a few) Wii U owners hoping that Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare heads to at least one Nintendo platform as well.

For those who may have missed the original game announcement, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare marks a stark departure from the existing Plants vs. Zombies titles; combining some of the series' tower-defense roots with new class-based, third-person shooter mechanics. Unlike the recently released Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time, Garden Warfare will allow players to take control of individuals Plants from their garden, with skills from both previous iterations of Plants vs. Zombies included to help players dispatch the Zombie hordes. The game will also include online multiplayer, allowing up to 24 players (!2 vs. 12) to battle it out when Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare ships later this year.

The latest Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare trailer reveals a number of Zombie classes and skills that Popcap will be introducing in their upcoming multiplatform tower defense shooter, including the chaingun football cannon-toting All-Star and two varieties of undead Soldier (rocket launcher and assault rifle). While the violence won't be particularly graphic, the Zombies will have access to a variety of undead-themed weapons like smoke grenades, flashbangs, sentry guns and more.
