Dragon Age 3: Inquisition Release Date News: Carry Over Saves Will Work Cross-Platform Say Bioware Execs [REPORT]
Today's Dragon Age 3: Inquisition release date news brings good news for loyal fans of the series: your previous saves will be part of the new game and you can access them regardless of what platform you use. That's right. Your Xbox 360 saves will somehow be used if you buy a PS4 copy of the game, and vice versa, according to producer Cameron Lee. Speaking at a panel at PAX Australias, Lee discussed the Dragon Age 3: Inquisition release date news with eager fans who are willing to give the franchise another shot after the disappointing Dragon Age 2: Ass Blimp (unofficial title).
"We know what we want to do," he said. "It will absolutely come across - your decisions carry [and] will matter."
The Dragon Age 3: Inquisition release date news about carry over saves is the latest in a string of promising signs for Bioware's next marquee project. Along with the Mass Effect series, Dragon Age is Bioware's biggest property. The pressure was on to create a game that would do justice to the loyal fanbase, many of whom have developed strong bonds with their in-game characters and the relationships between party members, a feature that Bioware basically pioneered with the legendary Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic. What's unique, though, is the decision to let gamers bring their saves from any platform to a next-gen system on the Dragon Age 3: Inquisition release date.
"The goal," said writer Patrick Weekes, "is that you can have an equally rich experience no matter which platform you're playing on."
It's a lofty goal, and the particulars of how the save transfers will work weren't detailed. I understand how it will be possible to program Dragon Age 3: Inquisition to accept save data from any system, but how will you physically transfer the data? A USB cable seems like the obvious solution, but including hardware in with the game could tack dollars onto the price and it seems strange that a PS3 could somehow communicate with an Xbox 360. I suppose a digital transfer could somehow be arranged?
Anywho, don't fret if you're new to the series, community manager Chris Priestly said during the PAX Australia panel that having fun on the Dragon Age 3: Inquisition release date isn't dependent on having played previous games.
"There will absolutely be some ties to some of the previous games, maybe some of the books or that sort of thing that you'll recognize if you've played the previous games," said Priestly, "but they're not going to be reliant on the previous games."
Dragon Age 3: Inquisition is scheduled for a Fall 2014 release on current and next gen consoles, as well as the PC.
