Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. Galaxy Note 3 release date:

The Galaxy S4 vs. Galaxy Note 3 release date race isn't exactly a race. Both devices are made by Samsung and aren't meant to compete with each other so their launch days are clearly spaced out to give each one their own moment in the spotlight.

First comes the Galaxy S4 release date, introducing Samsung's official iPhone killer. The new smartphone launches tomorrow at a special event at Radio City Music Hall in New York starting at 7pm. The device will likely hit stores within a week of the event so if you're looking for a new Android smartphone in the next few months this may be your best option.

The Galaxy Note 3 release date, on the other hand, is months away and likely won't arrive until September 2013. The rumored launch day makes sense on two levels. First, it gives the S4 plenty of room to breathe, and second, it just happens to be around the same time Apple is expected to debut the next iPhone. If the S4 is Samsung's iPhone killer then the Note 3 is the nail in the coffin.

The Galaxy Note 3 release date will arrive late this summer, by which we mean September 2013 (right around the same time we expect Apple to announce the next iPhone release date). These latest reports pegging Samsung's 3rd-gen phablet for the not-too-distant future have surfaced across the web.

The Galaxy Note 3 release date experts over at Android Geeks have put forward a pretty convincing argument for a September 2013 phablet launch:

"Since the latest reports are showing that Apple will set the iPhone 5S release date for June, we might even see the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 in flesh at IFA Berlin 2013 held between September 6 to 11. Or maybe Samsung will unveil its next-gen tablet in a separate event (just like it did with the Galaxy S3) a week before IFA Berlin, so all the media will be focusing on their new release."

The actual Galaxy Note 3 release date is expected to arrive in either late Q2 or early Q3, according to industry analysts. In layman's terms that would be late June July or early September, which just happens to be around the same time we expect Apple to launch their next iteration of the iPhone.

Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. Galaxy Note 3 Specs & Features:

Processing power:

The Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3 will likely both feature Samsung's redesigned 8-core Exynos 5 Octa processor chip. The beefed up processor will be more powerful than anything we've seen before. Samsung has already put it on full display, leaking a picture of the new design on Twitter after announcing the Exynos 5 Octa at E3 earlier this year:

Screen size and display:

If you believe that bigger is always better you'll want to hold out for the Galaxy Note 3 release date later this year. The 5.9-inch phablet will dwarf the 4.9-inch Galaxy S4 in size. Then again, the massive Note series isn't for everyone. The S4 should be big enough to handle your general smartphone needs while still fitting into the palm of your hands and your pants pocket.

The Galaxy S4 is expected to feature a Full HD display with 1080 x 1920 resolution. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Note 3 will likely feature a higher resolution with more pixels. It's still unclear whether the Galaxy S4 will feature an OLED or LCD screen (though we're leaning OLED). However, according to recent reports the Galaxy Note 3 will feature an LCD display because it works better with the devices S Pen stylus, which brings us to our next category in the Galaxy S4 vs. Galaxy Note 3 smackdown.

To S Pen or not to S Pen?

Samsung's line of Galaxy Note devices have lived or died by their stylus, which lives inside the device and slides out easily. In previous models the S Pen came with a built-in sensor that let users activate apps by simply hovering over them with the stylus. The new S Pen is expected to be bigger and better than ever before, though it's unclear what new features may pop up.

If you're hankering for an S Pen you may not have to wait for the Galaxy Note 3 release date this summer. Rumors are surfacing that the S4 could also feature a stylus. It's still unconfirmed, but it does make sense. With the new 4.9-inch screen it seems totally feasible that the new smartphone could also feature a built-in S Pen.

Eye Scrolling:

Eye scrolling is the cool new Samsung feature everyone is talking about. Building off previous software developed by the South Korean company, the Galaxy S4 and the Note 3 may feature a new bit of software that tracks your eye movements while you read and scrolls down the page or even to the next page before you can even swipe your finger.

Unfortunately, the latest reports suggest that this innovative new technology may not be ready yet and therefore won't be present at the Galaxy S4 release date. In that case, you'll have to hold out for the Galaxy Note 3 if you want your device to feature eye scrolling.

Android operating system:

With the Galaxy S4 release date just a day away it's pretty obvious that the new smartphone will feature the latest Android Jelly Bean 4.2 OS out of the box. This software is perfectly fine, but with whispers of the rumored Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie surfacing online you may prefer to wait for the Galaxy Note 3 release date, which will likely take place after Google has already launched their next mobile OS.

The biggest complaint many Samsung smartphone users have is that their Android devices are slow to upgrade. It often takes months for the latest iteration of Android to hit even the best Galaxy devices and this will likely be the case with the Galaxy S4 and Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.

Price:

While the price for both devices remains a mystery there's no doubt that the Galaxy S4 will cost significantly less than the Note 3. We expect Samsung to sell its latest smartphone for $199 with a two year contract. Meanwhile, based on previous iterations of the Note, the 5.0-inch phablet could cost upwards of $300 with a contract.

That's all the Samsung Galaxy S4 vs. Galaxy Note 3 release date, specs, features and price smackdown we've got in us for now. Check back tomorrow for live updates from Samsung's S4 launch event and full coverage of the South Korean company's next big thing.
