Galaxy Note 3 Release Date 2013: February Launch Rumors Bolstered By Samsung Note 2 Price Drop [REPORT: SPECS & FEATURES]
The Galaxy Note 3 release date is expected to arrive in February 2013 and speculation over the 6.3-inch tablet has only increased following the news that Samsung is offering a price drop on the popular Note 2. Read on for more Galaxy Note 3 release date news, specs, features and rumors.
The Galaxy Note 3 release date is expected to arrive this month, prompting Samsung fans who may have been considering purchasing a Note 2 to hold off for just a little while longer. However, the South Korean tech giant is currently offering the second-generation phablet at the discounted price of $189.99 SIM-free (half the original price), according to Uswitch.
Efforts to unload copies of the Note 2 ahead of the Galaxy Note 3 release date are popping up across the web on Amazon as well as from American carrier Verizon. Both are offering seriously discounted contracts on the smartphone-tablet hybrid for new customers and previous costumers adding a new device to an existing family plan.
Uswitch claims that the price cut could mark the beginning of the countdown to the Galaxy Note 3 release date:
The moves from two the biggest players in the US mobile market is fuelling conjecture that the Note 3 is just around the corner and could even take a bow at Mobile World Congress this month along with its larger stablemate, the Note 8.0.
Rumors that the Galaxy Note 3 release date is coming in February 2013 continue to gain stream with each move Samsung makes. However, what remains unclear is whether the third-generation phablet, which is expected to feature a 6.3-inch display and 8-core processor, will debut at the annual Mobile World Congress (MWC) or at a special event devoted exclusively to the Galaxy Note 3.
Last month at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013, Samsung teased the Galaxy Note 3 release date, showing off the new 8-core Exynos 5 Octa processor chip:
When the Galaxy Note 3 release date finally arrives the new Exynos 5 Octa processor will function unlike its predecessors. The new chip actually consists of two different processors. According to the Christian Post, a less-powerful Cortex-A7 processor will handle "light tasks," while the heavy-duty Cortex-A15 will take care of "more complicated tasks... allowing the processor to conserve energy.
Samsung boasts that the Galaxy Note 3 release date will introduce the "most powerful processor to ever be used on a smartphone or tablet," reports the Christian Post.
The Galaxy Note 3 release date may be the first Samsung device to feature the Exnos 5 Octa processor, but it won't be the only one in 2013. The Galaxy S4 is also expected to sport the same redesigned chip.
The S4 is also rumored to be the first Samsung smartphone not to rely on Google's Android operating system. Instead, Samsung is expected to use the 2013 release date to introduce Tizen OS, an in-house operating system which the company hopes will reduce their reliance on Google and extricate them from the growing patent war between Apple and Google.
It seems unlikely that Samsung would use the Galaxy Note 3 release date to introduce the Tizen OS instead of waiting until the S4 debuts. The Galaxy S line of smartphones has long been Samsung's flagship device. On the other hand, the Galaxy Note 3 release date could be an opportunity for the company to debut their new OS with lower stakes, leaving them time to respond to user criticisms ahead of the S4 launch.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 release date is still at least weeks away, but we already have a decent idea of how the new phablet will look and function. The two biggest leaks so far have been the 6.3-inch screen and the 8-core processor chip, but there's plenty more specs and features rumors floating around online.
As for the actual Galaxy Note 3 release date, we still don't have a specific day, but rumor has it the new device could launch at MWC 2013, which takes place from February 24-28 in Barcelona, Spain. In past years Samsung has used the expo to launch new devices, but more recently the Korean company has tended towards special events completely devoted entirely to their new products(s). We expect the new phablet to launch around the same time as MWC, but not at the expo itself.
The Galaxy Note 3 release date will mark Samsung's biggest cellular device ever, as well as the biggest smartphone eve released by any company, according to Tech Radar.
While the Note 2 featured a 5.5-inch screen (.2-inches up from the original Note), the Galaxy Note 3 will big a full .8-inches bigger, making its predecessors look like a phablet for an ant.
We've also heard rumor that the Galaxy Note 3 release date could mark the introduction of Samsung's famed flexible, unbreakable screen. Here's a quote illustrating the potential for the technology from PC Advisor:
"Foldable, rollable, wearable and more, [and] will allow for a high degree of durability through their use of a plastic substrate that is thinner, lighter and more flexible than... conventional LCD technology."
The Galaxy Note 3 release date also marks Samsung's continued move towards mobile device sales as they move away from TV sales (which has been their big money maker in past years).
"The real problem is that major television markets like the United States remain sluggish," an inside source leaked to Korea Times. "This is much worse than display-making manufacturers expected. In contrast, the demand for tablets is increasing and that market will see further explosive demand growth next year.... We can't resist but to actively respond to the new market trend."
The Galaxy Note 3 release date will makr the third iteration of the device no one believed would ever sell. When the first Note debuted it was mocked by critics as too big to catch on and branded a "phablet," but both the device and the nickname quickly gained popularity. The original device sold 20 million units and the Note 2 has moved over 10 million units already.
