Android 4.2.2 Release Date: Google's Jelly Bean Update Bluetooth Fix Coming 'In A Few Weeks' [EXCLUSIVE]
iDigitalTimes can confirm that Android 4.2.2. will be rolling out within the next couple of weeks.
Most users are still getting accustomed with Android 4.2.1. Jelly Bean, the update Google released on November 25th, 2012. But, sources at Google are confirming that Silicon Valley giant will be releasing Android 4.2.2. over the next couple of weeks. Google has already started to push the update to Google employees with Nexus devices, including the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, the Nexus 10, and is allowing them to test out Android 4.2.2. before the official release to the public.
Android Community, an Android news blog, reported a few weeks ago that Google would be releasing Android 4.2.2. in select countries, including Brazil and Malaysia, but no other countries were mentioned. The report also says that 1,000 Nexus 4 devices, manufactured in a Brazilian factory, is actually running Android 4.2.2 right out of the box. Similarly, phones in Malaysia have been spotted running Android 4.2.2. IBTimes reported that the Malaysian site, lowyat.net, wrote about the Malaysian Android phones running the still-unreleased update, but the posts were taken down shortly after they were published.
The folks at Android Community also mentioned that the update would probably be a minor one and would only taking care of some bug fixes. iDigitalTimes can confirm that the Android 4.2.2. update will be minor and "for the most part, a bug fix." What else can we expect from Android 4.2.2.? According to Softpedia and Android Police reported that Google will fix the issue surrounding the a2dp streaming stutter problem on the Nexus 7. According to a Google rep, the issue will be resolved in the "next release," which is most likely Android 4.2.2. The a2dp bug is actually about the oft-difficult Bluetooth audio streaming. Other than that, no other news has appeared online surrounding the upcoming features or fixes of the Android 4.2.2.
In June 2012, Google unveiled the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at their annual I/O developers conference, and the operating system update was well-received, but many didn't actually adopt the operating system. When Google launched the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 in November, they also released Android 4.2, which has been more popular than Android 4.1. IBTimes writes that Jelly Bean usage rose 10.2 percent since Android 4.2 was released.
When exactly will Android 4.2.2 be released? It's hard to say. Our sources at Google were granted acces to Android 4.2.2. "recently," and considering Google is just starting their limited testing, it could be awhile. However, our sources did say that it would be "a couple weeks...maybe mid-Feburary or mid-March" of this year.
It's important to note that none of these rumors have been confirmed by Google themselves, and they've remained mum on a potential Android 4.2.2. update. For that reason, it's difficult to predict any sort of release date or feature that the new Android 4.2.2. might have, but the newest update for the Android operating system will be coming to your Android device in the near future.
