IOS 6, 6.1 Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 5/4S Release Date: Evasi0n Website Launched And Private Beta Testing to Begin Soon
iOS 6 Jailbreak Updates
The iOS 6, 6.1 Untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5/4S and other non-jailbroken devices release date just got another step closer as less than an hour ago, @Pod2g was found tweeting the URL of the official @evad3rs dev team website. The site can be found at www.evasi0n.com and is the ONLY site you should keep your eye on for the upcoming iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak which will be for iPhone 5, 4S, iPad 2,3,4 iPad Mini and all other non-jailbroken iOS devices except the ATV3.
If you visit the site currently you will see the following words posted:
"We are in the process of finishing the GUI. Come back soon!"
In addition, it appears the next step in the process is private beta testing.
According to the page, here is all that is required to prepare for the iOS 6, 6.1 jailbreak:
- 5 minutes of your time!
- A computer, running Windows (XP minimum), Mac OS X (10.5 minimum) or Linux (x86 / x86_64)
- An iPhone, iPad or iPod running iOS 6.0 through 6.1 (you may check in Settings / General / About => Version)
- A USB cable to connect the device to the computer
From the looks of things the jailbreak process will be quite simple (as usual) and the page design is very pleasant. It was a combined effort by @Pod2g and @Surenix--the same fellow who helped with the design of @Pod2g's recent DJ app, PodDJ. According to @pod2g,
"Thank @Surenix for the design, me for the coding"
Though I have little more to update you on, I wanted to submit this post so that you all know exactly where to go to access the iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak when it releases. As I stated in an earlier post there are a lot of scam sites out there right now, and so I wouldn't want anyone fooled.
In addition, I would like to invite you all to join in on a suggestion which I made on Twitter that many seem to be excited about.
Basically, when the jailbreak arrives, I thought as a token of our appreciation it might be neat to post a photo of your jailbroken device on the @evad3rs Twitter feed accompanied by the hashtag #thankyouevad3rs. Though it's a simple gesture, my hope is, in large numbers it will be a powerful one that show our appreciation.
For those who have been asking, the evasi0n.com website appears to have a functioning PayPal donation capability so, when the time comes, feel free to show your appreciation for the iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak that way too.
This is all for now, but if you missed out on the information about supported devices and upgrading, be sure to check out yesterday's post, located just below.
Thanks, and see you at the jailbreak finish line!
iOS 6, 6.1 Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 5/4S Release Date: Evad3rs Set A Loose ETA While Warning Against Scammers
Yesterday was a landmark day in jailbreak history. iOS 6.1 released to the public and a newly formed dev team, The Evad3rs, set about the work of testing and polishing up the final package of something we've all been waiting a long time for -- an iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5, 4S; iPad Mini; iPad 2,3,4; iPods and other non-jailbroken devices.
When Is The iOS 6, 6.1 Untethered Jailbreak Release Date And What Devices Are Supported?
Posting a few updates throughout the day, @planetbeing let us know yesterday that the ETA for the untethered jailbreak is roughly a week, give or take.
"In terms of release date, we're aiming for approximately a week out, but it's possible it will come sooner or later than that." Tweeted @planetbeing on Monday afternoon.
In addition, he filled us in on some interesting facts concerning which iOS 6x will support the new untethered jailbreak:
"6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2 and 6.1 will be supported."
This was excellent news considering earlier that day @MuscleNerd let us know nearly every iOS device would be supported by the upcoming iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak.
"Yes, every other 6.1 device variation will be supported. All TWENTY-TWO of them (omg!). Plus atv2 if it's out in time..."
Moments later he added even more.
"Awesome...as @EvilPenguin_ pointed out, we're seeing the final ATV2 6.1 today too. So ATV2 will be covered by the JB (not ATV3 tho)."
Some of you may ask, "Does this include ... ?" Let me spell it out.
Devices eligible for the upcoming iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak:
How to Update Safely to iOS 6.1 Before Jailbreaking
Of course at this point, everyone in the jailbreak community felt the excitement coursing through their veins while most rushed to update to 6.1. However, thinking about this, @pimskeks was soon seen tweeting some important advice concerning how to update.
"If you people plan to upgrade to iOS 6.1 please don't do an OTA upgrade. Please make a full restore using iTunes."
I've had multiple people ask me what exactly this means so I'm going to tell you.
Basically, to update, the devs are suggesting you use iTunes, not the upgrade from settings.
To use iTunes you simply need to:
1.) back up your data
2.) perform a system restore through iTunes
By performing the restore, you are basically making your device like new, fresh off the shelf and with that iTunes will always install the most upgraded firmware-in this case, iOS 6.1.
"Why?" you might ask.
Here is what @MUscleNerd said concerning that question.
"OTA is more time consuming for us to test, and it gives you different SHSH blobs than normal restore."
So in other words, they are not testing that kind of update, simply for the sake of getting a jailbreak out to the public faster. However, for those who have already updated through settings and fear they will not be able to jailbreak their device, this is not necessarily the case. At worst, you just may be a bit more delayed than the rest, according to @planetbeing.
"You can upgrade if you want (I recommend iTunes backup and full restore) but there's no reason to until jailbreak's actually out ... most of our tests will be performed on freshly restored devices ..."
When asked if a jailbreak was possible still when OTA (settings) update was used. Here is how he responded.
"Probably, but I haven't tested it"
Message from the Evad3rs: Avoid The Scams!
With excitement running high, the team worked tirelessly into the evening -- polishing and testing the iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5/4S etc. to deliver to the public. However, despite the fact it seems everyone knows who is working on the jailbreak, and where to find their updates, it seems some scammer websites have popped up, which are fooling a number of hopeful jailbreakers.
On Tuesday morning @pimskeks was found tweeting this warning plea.
"The jailbreak has NOT been released yet! don't get fooled! You will hear from @evad3rs when it's available"
A few seconds later he added to that.
"DO NOT go to any website searching for a 6.1 JB. THESE ARE FAKE. Don't go there, you will give these scammers money if you do SO DON'T DO IT...@evad3rs will announce the JB and the official website when it's done. NO ONE ELSE. PLEASE PEOPLE READ AND LISTEN."
@pod2g was also found tweeting a similar message that morning.
"Tip: evad3rsjb.com is fake, like every iOS 6.1 jailbreak tool website popping-up at the moment ... (don't click on links, that will give them traffic and money)"
So you heard it folks, do NOT go searching for the jailbreak. The official website of the Evad3rs is found at http://evad3rs.com and this url currently redirects to the evad3rs twitter feed on which nothing has yet been posted. If you keep an eye on that site or the @evad3rs Twitter handle you can't go wrong.
The web is full of false information and people looking to make a quick buck. Don't fall prey to their trickery.
In addition, don't visit any sites you think are blogs for the devs. For example yesterday several readers were asking me if the jailbreak had already released as http://www.pod2gblog.blogspot.com/ was claiming that it had. Unfortunately this is not the official blog of @pod2g (http://www.pod2g.org/).
Simply put, trust the devs and know that when the iOS 6, 6.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5/4S et al. arrives, every major blog will be talking about it.
