Borderlands 2 Level Cap Increase Coming March 12? ‘Bizarre’ DLC On The Way Too

Borderlands 2 fans have been waiting (im)patiently for a level cap increase since the release of 'Mister Torgue's Campaign Of Carnage.' There have already been a total of three DLCs for Borderlands 2 since its September release, but fans still haven't received the level cap increase that would allow them to take characters beyond level 50. For many fans (myself included) this means that there is no reason to play Borderlands 2 (or any DLC) right now.

And it's not because it's a bad game, it's because we don't want to waste valuable XP completing fun side missions, only to face an XP drought when the level cap comes through. And it looks like that day will finally be upon us in March, according to Gearbox producer James Lopez. He spoke to Official PlayStation Magazine about the level cap increase in a recent interview.

"We do have one planned, and it will be for quite a few levels which will allow you play for quite a bit longer. We also have a plan for Q1," he said.

For those not well versed in financial-speak, Q1 refers to the end of the first tax quarter of the year, which happens on March 31. If Gearbox is following the "Holy Tuesday" rule of game releases, means the level cap will arrive on March 5, 12, 19, or 26.

Gearbox is also touting a 'bizarre' expansion for the next DLC.  In an interview with Games.com, Gearbox bigwigs Anthony Burch and Paul Hellquist talked about doing something "bizarre" with a future DLC, something along the lines of Red Dead Redemption's Undead Nightmare or Saint's Row: The Third's Enter The Dominatrix DLC.

"You just might see one of those bizarre ideas in the near future," said Hellquist.

Given Borderlands 2's propensity for the bizarre already, one can only wonder what kind of crazy DLC needs to be in the works for it to strike some of the designers/writers as "bizarre."  Maybe it's one of those perspective things, and the "bizarre" DLC will be a Sims style add-on full of normal domestic stuff. "Tiny Tina's Studio Apartment Of Neutrality" or some such thing where we feed pets and buy clothing and look for romance.

Regardless, the "bizarre" DLC better not get in the way of the damn level cap increase. Which, in my expert opinion, will be coming on March 12. Could I be wrong? YES! But am I? MAYBE! Let me explain ...

Here's the release schedule for March.

Major League Baseball 2K13 -    March 5

MLB 13 The Show --March 5

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 - March 5

Tomb Raider - March 5

SimCity - March 5

Castlevania Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate -- March 5

God of War: Ascension -- March 12

StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm - March 12

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 - March 12

Gears of War: Judgment - March 19

Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel - March 26

BioShock Infinite - March 26

March 5 is too busy, look at all the titles coming out that day. Too many little games pulling people every which way.

March 19 brings 'Gears of War: Judgment,' a highly anticipated game that also sucks up the multiplayer/online crowd. And March 26? Forget it! 'Bioshock: Infinite' is likely to be a major release, and stiff competition should be avoided. 'Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel' will be a big game for people who love to play co-op online, the EXACT people who are most likely to get into Borderlands 2 after a level cap increase.

March 12 is exactly one month after Gearbox's new game, 'Aliens: Colonial Marines' gets released. So they get a nice buffer not trying to cannibalize their own fanbase. Sure, March 12 has 'God of War,' but that's a PS3 exclusive. And 'Starcraft 2' is not as popular as you'd think. Combine those two with some sniper game no one's ever heard of, and you have the best date for a new DLC and/or new level cap increase to drop.

Could I be totally wrong? Of course, but if you look at the calendar the 12th really is the best day for them to launch a level cap increase. Unless they were lying about doing it by the end of March ...
