BlackBerry Z10 Release Date Price For SIM Free Phone Leaked By UK Retailer
We wondered what else could leak before Research In Motion officially unveiled the BlackBerry Z10 next week, and now we have our answer: The SIM-free device price.
After weeks of leaks have left little to the imagination ahead of the BlackBerry Z10 release date announcement at RIM's BlackBerry 10 press event next week, UK retailer Carphone Warehouse is apparently responsible for the latest BlackBerry Z10 leak this month. While we've yet to receive any concrete confirmation of the BlackBerry Z10's price from RIM, Engadget has obtained a new photo which allegedly shows the BlackBerry Z10 in Carphone Warehouse's inventory system with a £480 ($758.40) price tag.
That's $41.60 less than Apple's iPhone 5, which starts at $199 for the 16GB model, leading us to believe that most U.S. carriers will offer the BlackBerry Z10 for $199 with two-year service agreement. The $200 price point has sort of become the default price-tag for most mid- and high-end smartphones in recent years, so few are likely to be surprised by such an announcement during the BlackBerry 10 event next week.
It's also possible that Research In Motion could be looking at a cheaper price, hoping that a lower cost of entry could help BlackBerry re-establish a significant market share; however, even a lowered price tag could prove fruitless within months should Apple actually release the long-rumored cheaper iPhone and/or iPhone mini this summer. The BlackBerry Z10 will also face stiff competition from top Android competitors like the Samsung Galaxy S3, Nexus 4, and Galaxy Note 2; worse, it could quickly be made obsolete by newer devices like the Galaxy S4 or Galaxy Note 3 phones expected later this year.
The model numbers from Carphone Warehouse price leak also match up with model numbers from a December Engadget photo which suggested RIM would release both black and white variations of the phone on the BlackBerry Z10 release date. In addition to the color choices, prior BlackBerry Z10 leaks have also revealed the phone's completed assembly, tech specs, display tech, press photos, and even its promotional page on the Verizon web site.
