'Last Of Us' Demo Release Date March 12: Will You Pay $60 for The Demo?
Can't wait till May 7 to play Naughty Dog's apocalypse survival epic "The Last of Us"?
Go out and reserve your copy of "God of War: Ascension," if you haven't already, because only God of War gamers will have access to the demo on its scheduled release date of March 12. Sony confirmed the demo release on their blog yesterday:
In just a few short months, The Last of Us will launch and put the fate of Joel and Ellie into your hands as they embark on a brutal journey across a post-pandemic United States.
Right now, 7th May 2013 might seem like a long way away, so to help assuage the excruciating wait we have some very exciting news to share with you. We're announcing today that players who pick up God of War: Ascension will be able to play an exclusive demo of The Last of Us when it becomes available at a later date.
We've teamed up with the development crew at Santa Monica Studio to include access to a chapter of The Last of Us in every copy of God of War: Ascension, so you won't have to wait too long to get your hands on two of the biggest games of the year. You'll simply have to load your God of War: Ascension disc into your PS3 and find The Last of Us listing on the main menu. There, you'll find details on how you can access The Last of Us demo, for free, as soon as it becomes available.
We hope you're as excited about this news as we are and we know what's likely on your mind now: what will you be able to play? We'll have more news about what's in store for you after God of War: Ascension launches in March. We hope your wait just got better!
Well, the wait HASN'T gotten any better actually. In fact, this makes it get a whole lot worse.
I've been a 360 owner since the system launched, but I recently acquired a PS3 SPECIFICALLY for "The Last of Us." That's how great I think the game is going to be. The trailers are breathtaking. Naughty Dog's track record with the "Uncharted" series is practically flawless. There is absolutely no reason to think that this game will be anything short of melt-your-face-off awesome.
Hence the "God of War" bundle.
Sony KNOWS people are dying to play the "Last of Us" demo, and industry insiders are predicting "God of War" sales will barely meet predictions. So Sony is obviously trying to juice those sales a little bit by posing the question to PS3 owners -- Will you pay $60 to play the "Last of Us" demo?
Since details for the process are sketchy, I'm wondering if there will be some sort of verification process like a code or a download that prevents people from sharing the game. Otherwise, anyone who plans to buy "God of War: Ascension" can expect to be loaning it out to everyone they know so their friends can get access to the "Last of Us" demo.
And Sony didn't announce when the "Last of Us" demo would be available. They simply say "at a later date," which could mean virtually anything. For me, the real question is whether or not the "exclusive" demo will even be available on the PSN before the "Last Of Us" May 7 release date. "God of War: Ascension" had a similar tactic, hitching its still-living horse to the completely dead horse of the "Total Recall" blu-ray release by including a demo disc for the game back in December. The PSN demo for 'God of War: Ascension' won't be available until February.
So, are you willing to pay $60 to get access to the "Last of Us" demo? Or are you willing to wait until the game gets released on May 7?
