Jurassic 5 Coachella 2013 Reunion Confirmed, J5 Tour 'Definitely' Happening [VIDEOS]
Jurassic 5 broke up in 2007, but a reunion at Coachella 2013 was confirmed yesterday and rumors are flying that a "full blown" tour could follow. In an interview with Triple J earlier this month, J5 rapper Chali 2na promised future shows and hinted at a "full blown" reunion.
Here's a (bad) Jurassic 5 joke to celebrate the news.
"Late Breaking News. Jurassic 5 (yes all of us) will be performing at Coachella ..."
If you haven't already, you definitely need to listen to this classic Jurassic 5 track right now and start getting pumped about the 2013 reunion.
Jurassic 5's Chali 2na spoke to Triple J's "The Doctor" back on Jan. 10, 2013, but rumors of a reunion didn't blow up until this year's Coachella lineup was revealed last night.
The deep-voiced rapper revealed to Triple J that Jurassic 5 would finally reunite in 2013, at least temporarily.
"For us, I'm sure we're going to end up doing some shows," he said.
That's shows, plural, meaning that J5 fans around the country, and maybe even the world, may have a chance to see the rap group perform live. Jurassic 5 was always California-based, however, and may prefer not to stray too far from their old stomping grounds of Los Angeles.
When asked about the the possibility of a full-scale Jurassic 5 reunion tour in 2013 or beyond, 2na hinted, "We're definitely thinking about it."
Back when Jurassic 5 broke up in 2007 the only explanatio offered was "disagreements among members of the group."
"As a family, sometimes you don't like your brother. We went through a period of that," Chali 2na explained at the time, according to Triple J. "We as a group -- we've been together almost 20 years now -- you're going to have your ups and downs. It's just a trip because Australia really caught our down."
Jurassic 5 fans were shocked to learn that the the group's exterior image was nothing like their actual internal dynamic.
"I don't want to sit here and fake around with it -- we're not seeing eye to eye right now. People see us as a harmonising, loving group, but that's far from the truth," Jurassic 5 member Soup told the press in 2007 at their end of their last tour. "Some people here want their own shrine, their own thing. If that's what you want, I say more power to you. I hope it works out for you -- just don't come up with lame excuses."
Soup also attributed the Jurassic 5 breakup to the grueling process of recording their last album, "Feedback," which he called the group's "worst experience as far as putting out a record".
He added that Jurassic 5 was fed up with being "treated like cattle" by the music industry.
As soon as the 2007 Jurassic 5 interview went to print, fans around the world assumed that J5 was done, but earlier this month Chali 2na pointed out that they never actually broke up.
"We all didn't want to be like, 'Ladies and gentlemen, Jurassic 5 is breaking up,' because we never really did," he told The Doctor.
iDigitalTimes is based in NYC so we probably won't get a chance to see Jurassic 5 perform at Coachella 2013, but we hope their reunion turns into a full tour. (Hey, "Rock The Bells!" Book Jurassic 5 for your touring summer Hip-Hop festival ASAP!)
