Samsung Galaxy S4 Release Date 2013: April 15 Tapped For Official Release? Features To Include Wireless Charging [SPECS & RUMORS]
The Samsung Galaxy S4 is rumored to be released in 2013. This past week, we found out some more rumors about the upcoming flagship phone for Samsung.
Among the rumors are reports of a brand new chip, an Exynos 5 Octa processor. According to TechCrunch, the new processing chip was clocked at 1.8GHz, which is incredibly fast. Comparatively, the iPhone 5 processor was clocked at 1.3GHz. The iPhone 5 uses a customized A6 chip which was developed by Apple engineers and is one of the fastest chips on the current market. But, as the Samsung Galaxy S mobile phone series gets more popular, they'll need the hardware to compete with the likes of Apple and their iPhone line.
Yesterday, SamMobile, one of the premiere Samsung news websites, wrote that they think the Samsung Galaxy S4 will be officially released on April 15. They divulged a lot of information about the Samsung Galaxy S4, codenamed "Altius." According to SamMobile, the S4 will be released in black and white, similar to the colors you can get for most iPhones. In addition, they added that Samsung could be holding an event as soon as MWC 2013, or March 2013. Potential locations include London, U.K., New York City, N.Y. or Korea. One of the biggest additions the Samsung Galaxy S4 is rumored to have is wireless charging, which SamMobile says is a distinct possibility. According to them, Samsung will sell a separate dock and a back cover that enables wireless charging and will be available a couple weeks after the device is on sale.
The nomenclature for the upcoming Samsung phone is up for debate as well. In Asian culture, the number four is traditionally an unlucky number, and Samsung, a Korea-based company, may feel a little superstition calling their flagship device the Samsung Galaxy S4.
In addition, the upcoming sequel to the Galaxy S3 is rumored to be filled with the best hardware features, including a Super AMOLED Full HD Resolution Display, 2GB of RAM, 13 Megapixel Rear facing Camera capable of shooting 1080p Full HD Videos at 30FPS, 2 Megapixel front facing camera capable of shooting 720p HD Videos and running Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean out of the box.
Besides the rumored release date, the wireless charging feature is one of the most interesting features SamMobile discussed in their article. The wireless charging trend seems to be taking off, with Nokia starting things up with the Nokia Lumia 920, and Samsung seems to be following suit. Will Apple take notice and add wireless charging to their iPhone 5S/6? It's hard to say. Previously, when Samsung introduced NFC in their Galaxy S3 phone, analysts assumed the iPhone 5 would include an NFC chip as well. However, that wasn't the case obviously, and Apple hasn't really regretted the decision, considering the difficulty NFC technology has faced in the US. But, wireless charging is something that even average users can easily comprehend and potentially be interested in, so the iPhone 5S/6 might do well to include it.
