Ex-President George H.W. Bush Soon To Be Released From Hospital, Says Spokesperson
Former president of the United States of America George H.W. Bush who has been admitted to a hospital in Houston, Texas, is said to be discharged soon.
In an email, the family spokesperson, Jim McGrath said that the former President's health has improved significantly and the family is hopeful that he will be released in the coming days.
"We are hopeful that the president can be discharged this coming week, but we're still taking everything one day at a time," he wrote, reported Reuters.
Bush's son and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush confirmed to TCPalm.com that Sr. Bush was expected to be released from the hospital soon.
The ex-president who served office from 1989 to 1993 was admitted to a hospital on Nov. 7 following a bad cough and was released twelve days later. However, he was re-admitted to the Methodist Hospital four days later for a bronchitis treatment after his cough got persistent.
The doctors had hoped to discharge the 88-year-old in time to spend Christmas with his family; unfortunately, that was not the case. He spent Christmas in the hospital with his wife Barbara, son Neil and grandson Pierce, reported AFP.
After being treated for a persistent fever in the intensive care unit in December, Bush was transferred to a regular patient room after his condition improved.
A Texas radio station had wrongly informed that George H.W. Bush had passed away. WBAP radio which writes obituaries of famous people in advance so that they can be released soon after they die, mistakenly sent out an e-mail bulletin that read, "The Death of a President: George H.W. Bush. Our nation's 41st president, George H.W. Bush has passed away in Houston," reported travelerstoday.com.
Apparently, an error with the email system triggered off this email that was received by many. people. After realizing their mistake, WBAP radio sent out another message.
"A message erroneously reporting the death of President George H.W. Bush was sent out moments ago by WBAP News. Mr. Bush has not passed away. We sincerely apologize for this error," stated the message.
The former president has lower-body Parkinsonism and has been using a wheelchair for more than a year now.
Bush is known for leading the coalition that pushed Iraqi forces out of Kuwait in 1991. He has served as a congressman, CIA director and was also the chief of the U.S. Liaison Office in China.
Since leaving office, Sr. Bush has been involved in charitable work, raising money for the 2004 Asian tsunami and Hurricane Katrina in 2005, reported enstarz.com.
Along with Jeb, who is rumored to run for president in 2016, Bush's other son George W. Bush has held prestigious political positions. George W. Bush was the 43rd president of the United States.
